Every time that you give out your email address, you run the risk of some unscrupulous merchant selling your address to a spammer or using it to send his own spam to you. We recommend having two email accounts, one from us that you give to your friends and family and one from another source such as hotmail or yahoo that you give to merchants. One way to help avoid Spam or junk mail is to create a filter that finds and does something to email that you suspect is Spam. Handout. If your e-mail address is listed on the Trent web page or a web page anywhere on the Internet chances are spam “bots” will find it. Other method spammers use to obtain e-mail addresses is postings on Usenet newsgroups (sometimes called discussion groups or bulletin boards).

The heuristic filters can block up to 95% of spam from reaching your inbox. Unwanted messages can still get through. Follow the suggestions below to maximize your filter effectiveness: Increase your settings. The more aggressive the filter setting, the fewer spam messages will reach your inbox. Please note that more aggressive the setting, the more often you should visit the Message Center to confirm that legitimate messages are not quarantined.

Information Technology has added a spam identifier to its e-mail servers. When a message arrives in your mailbox that is detected as junk mail, the beginning of the subject line will be changed to read [Probable SPAM]. This allows you to tell your e-mail account to create a 'Rule' to filter spam messages into a separate folder so that they no longer clutter up your Inbox.

Good question - and it's one without a short answer, because spammers (like hackers and virus writers) are always trying to stay one step ahead of the game. The simplest way, if your mail program supports it (e.g. outlook express) is to add some filters and use your "blocked senders" list. For example, you can create a filter that looks for "low mortgage rates" and automatically deletes the message.

Here are a few general recommendations. Check your address(es) with our system so you know how many lists you are on. If you are on a spam list, change your email address to a 'clean' address. Cancel the address(es) that the spammers are using. Be careful where you surf ... your new address may be captured again. Use a separate email address if you shop online, one that you can change often without having to inform your friends/family of the change.

There is no foolproof way to stop spam. However, the UW has implemented a spam filter that you can apply to your account. It won't stop all spam but it couldn't hurt to have it on. Check here for more information.

Logon to DreamMail and set up your SPAM settings. In DreamMail, click on SPAM settings and set SPAM score to a low value of 4 or 5. Move any unmarked SPAM into the Learn As Spam folder so the system will learn what is spam and delete it next time around. When reading an unwanted email in DreamMail, click on Block Sender. Any email from this email address will be blocked and deleted.

You need to install anti-spam program in you PC / Laptop Although we have anti-spam software in our mail server, not all the spam mail can be fully detected. The anti-spam software we used at mail server side will reduce the number of spam mail to your mailbox.

Many ISPs now have Spam (and virus) blocking software installed on their servers - for a small fee they will screen your emails and stop those they think are spam. There is a risk they might also stop a very small percentage of your legitimate emails. Emails are stopped based on a number of rules - eg if they are from known spammers, if they contain certain words, if they do not come from valid email addresses etc. We have found our ISP's spam blocking software to be very effective.

You may be able to locate it in the "Junk Email" or "Spam" folder of your email account. You will have to use the webmail service of your email provider to do this. Suspected junk/spam will not be downloaded into Outlook, Eudora or other PC-based email programs. Don't forget to add ChecklistComplete.com to your email whitelist (list of approved mailers).

In addition, the mail filters found in email products have a number of limitations and often assume a "one size fits all" solution.
