If you can only afford one, definitely go with the 2". I would say that most of my bowl, hollow form and faceplate work under 10" is done with a 2" pad. The pads are less expensive and so are the disks. 3" is great for the outsides of bowls and convex shapes and the inside of larger bowls or more gradual curves. Too tight of a curve and the 3" pad will only hit the edges of the disk and not the center. For large work and especially large platters, 3" is good.

A formatted CDRW disk for Windows applications, such as DirectCD, cannot be used with the 1044CD. Please use unformatted disks. A formatted disk could be used by the 1044CD after the format has been erased using a computer. Even though a CD is installed in the CD drive on the MRS-1044CD, the 1044CD displays a "NO DISK" message. Windows (OS) sets the read only file attribute when you drag & drop the file from CD-ROM, then 1044 displays error massage.

Commander supports working with the compressed files (such as Zip and CAB files) as long as the underlying operating system provides support for such files. For example, Windows XP provides "native" support for the Zip and CAB files that allows you to view the contents of such files as if they were folders.
