eConsole uses 100% CPU time. Why is this so ?
eConsole History PageUnder Windows 9x, eConsole registers as using 100% of the available CPU time while idle. This does not, however, reflect the actual machine load, since the computer remains accessible and responsive as usual under Windows 9x. The cause for this phenomenon seems to be within the metering API of Windows 9x - under NT, eConsole registers with between 0% and 3% CPU load while idle, which is what one should expect.
On my system ksoftirqd uses 70-100 percent of the CPU time. What's wrong ?
PARISC-LINUX: FAQIn the HIL drivers we poll the HIL ports with a few timers simultanously and those timers seem to increase the ksoftirqd load a lot. But although the load seems to be very high, the machine will be fully functional at maximum speed and it seems to us as if this is only a cosmetical problem which is maybe caused by some bugs in the load calculation functions in the Linux kernel.
edit] ArmagetronAd takes most or all the CPU time, how come?
FAQ - Armagetron Advanced Wikitakes all the CPU time it needs to simulate and render the scene as fast as you'll allow it to. There are two conditions under which that makes it take almost everything that is available: You set your graphics card driver not to wait for VSync. AA will then run at the highest possible framerate and therefore also use all the CPU time available. If you enable the FPS display in the HUD options and it shows more than 100 FPS, then that's your problem.

Can I prevent one application in a non-global zone from using all the CPU time?
Learning Solaris 10 & Zones : Unofficial FAQYes! The Resource Management model being hierarchical, the first thing to do is to assign a number of shares to each non-global zone ( See 5.1 ). Within the non-global zone, the non-global zone administrator may now create projects in the standard way to differentiate between workloads running in the same non-global zone. Resource contention between these workloads can be resolved by assigning FSS shares to the projects.
Tiger uses much too much CPU power. Is this normal?
FAQ]Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" Installation - macosx.co...When you first install Tiger, Spotlight is indexing your harddrive(s). Whenever you attach a FW-drive, for example, Spotlight also does its job. Q 2c-03: Can I write an application that uses DCE and X11/Motif?
DCE Frequently Asked QuestionsThe X11/Xt/Motif libraries may not be thread-safe. For example, suppose one thread calls a function in Xt, which calls a nonthreadsafe malloc(), which then gets preempted. The next thread may call a threadsafe malloc() that comes with DCE. When control returns to the first malloc(), any assumptions about the state of the heap are invalid. Also, Motif/Xt/Xlib are not currently reentrant wrt/themselves. You can't have multiple threads concurrently manipulating any Motif/Xt/Xlib global state.
