Dentists are required to complete 40 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. If you are a new licensee, these credits are pro-rated. Board regulations also specify permissible types of CE. Please consult the Boards regulations at N.J.A.C 13:30-5.1. Registered Dental Hygienists are required to complete 20 CE hours and Registered Dental Assistants are required to complete 10 CE hours with each biennial registration cycle. Yes. Beginning in January 2008, a licensee who has been lapsed for more than the current renewal period must document having earned at least 24 hours in the two years prior to reinstatement. A license that has been lapsed for less than two years will be required to earn a pro-rated number of hours, e.g., a licensee that has been lapsed for thirteen months must have 13 hours of Continuing Education credits within the last two years in order to reinstate.

Courses which are not approved by TDLR as continuing education courses can not be used for license renewal. If the college course is a TDLR approved continuing education course, then the course hours can be used for license renewal. However, the courses must be taken during the period of the license being renewed.

A certified electrician may take continuing education from; a community college or public school district or public educational institution, or a state-licensed private post-secondary institution under contract with a public educational institution, community college or public school district that offers classes relevant to the certification category.

No. The first thing is to find out if the class is Board approved. To do this, on this website, click on “Education” and then “Approved Continuing Education Courses.” If the course you took is Board approved, it will be listed on this web page. If it is not listed then it is not Board approved. If your class is not approved, and you want to apply to receive credit for it, you will need to apply for equivalent approval.
