Both regular incandescent bulbs and halogen bulbs create light by heating a filament (made of tungsten) inside the bulb; the heat makes the filament white-hot, producing the light that you see. Usually, the bulb burns out when the filament wears out. The filament on a regular incandescent bulb wears out over time because the tungsten on the filament evaporates and is redeposited on the bulb's glass.

Basically, an incandescent Bulb is a simple device - just a tungsten wire sealed in a glass tube. The electric current passing through the wire heats it to incandescence, and the wire produces light. Suppose you took a dark piece of metal. If you heat it in a furnace, it becomes hot and radiates heat, but at first shows no visible effects. Due to the high temperature the tungsten filament is operated at, some of the tungsten evaporates during use. This evaporation leaves the filament thinner on some areas. The weakened area of the filament becomes hotter, which leads to even faster evaporation causing the filament to burn back and the lamp to burn out.
