Salmonella infections usually resolve in 5-7 days and often do not require treatment other than oral fluids. Persons with severe diarrhea may require rehydration with intravenous fluids. Antibiotics, such as ampicillin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, or ciprofloxacin, are not usually necessary unless the infection spreads from the intestines. Some Salmonella bacteria have become resistant to antibiotics, largely as a result of the use of antibiotics to promote the growth of food animals.

There is no specific vaccine or treatment for HHV-6 infections. Most children with the disease are not seriously ill but steps should be taken to alleviate their symptoms e.g. reducing the high temperature through maintaining hydration and removing clothing.

Usually, treatment includes antibiotics to fight the infection, combined with an antihistamine and/or a decongestant. It is very important to take all of the medication as directed, because the infection can linger and recur if not completely cured.
