In computers, dots per inch (dpi) is a measure of the sharpness (that is, the density of illuminated points) on a display screen. The dot pitch determines the absolute limit of the possible dots per inch. However, the displayed resolution of pixels (picture elements) that is set up for the display is usually not as fine as the dot pitch.

DPI stands for dots per inch, or the number of dots of ink that fill a linear inch of surface. DPI is used to measure printing resolution -- the higher the dots per inch, the better the resolution and the better the image quality. For example, if an image has a resolution of 300dpi, it means that a square inch of solid color will be filled with about 90,000 (300X300) dots of ink. (Return to Top)

let the XFree86 X server calculate the DPI value based on the DisplaySize parameter in its configuration file, XF86Config-4. See the XF86Config-4(5x) manual page for details. The first method is recommended if you already know the DPI value of your monitor and wish to always run it at the same resolution; the second method is the more flexible way, but only available for the XFree86 X server. In each of the files above, remove the -dpi word and the following number.

By default, we scan pictures at 72 dpi since this setting seems to produce images of high quality without making the size of the files overly large. Please not that if you order your photos to be outputed to CD-ROM then 200 dpi scans are going to be included free of charge. If you want to scan your pictures at a higher dpi setting, please contact us and we will try to accomadate you.

A pixel is a minute circular point of light about 10 or 12 thousandths of an inch in diameter (sometimes stated as 10 or 12 'mils') created on a monitor screen. A dot is a sample taken by a scanner for representation in a raster image. A 300 dots per inch (dpi) scan takes snapshots of dots which are about 3 mils across (3,33333....mils to be exact).

The resolution of a 4"x5" print is 250x200 dpi. The resolution of a 8"x10" print is 125x100 dpi. Because the Pixera camera provides 1.2 million pixel resolution (1260 x 960 under Windows), you can determine the image resolution in dpi (dots per inch), simply by dividing 1000 by the dimension of your image. For a 4"x5" print, for instance, the horizontal resolution in dpi is 1000/4 = 250 and the vertical resolution is 1000/5=200 dpi.

DOTS stands for directly observed treatment short course, the curative treatment for tuberculosis. When you upload images to our site, they are resized to fit inside a 350x350 pixel area. You can upload any size file and we will resize it to the correct size for our site. If you are ordering prints, then we recommend at least 300 DPI for your artwork. This would be 750 x 1050 pixels for a 300 DPI print. 1000 x 1400 pixels for 400 DPI. 1250 x 1750 pixels for a card at 500 DPI. We have created a tutorial to help people prepare images for printing.

In term of expense and effectiveness, in my experience Protonix (pantoprazole) is the least effective and least expensive of PPIs. The other PPIs are almost equally effective in their most recommended clinical dose (Lanzoprazole 30 mg, Omeprazole 20 mg, Esomeprazole 40 mg) with Esomeprazole having edge over the competitors partly due to higher dose and partly due to its metabolic pathway. The resolution of printed text and images is measured in dots per inch, or DPI. The print resolution for a piece can range from 300 DPI to 1200 DPI, and sometimes more, depending on the level of detail required.
