It is your choice where you perform your physical therapy. For your convenience, UOC has physical therapy offices located at our State College and Altoona offices. Yes, anyone who is prescribed for physical therapy is welcome at the UOC physical therapy department. You are required to have a prescription from the referring physician.

Recently, the State of New Jersey has passed a Direct Access law allowing physical therapists to see patients without a written prescription from a physician. However, since this is a recent change in the law, most insurance companies have not recognized this fact and still require proof of obtaining a written prescription from the physician to allow payment for physical therapy.

Technically no. Both the therapists at Sandy Physical Therapy have received advanced training and certification that allows them to see patients without a referral from a physician. Yes. When you return to your physician for a follow-up visit, your therapist wil send a progress note with you. It is important that you let the therapist know when you are returning to see the doctor. If you do not have a follow-up appointment, the therapist will send a note when you are finished with physical therapy.

Students spend their first three years (seven semesters) at ESF, then transfer to UMU for another three years (nine semesters). Courses taken the first year at UMU complete the requirements for the ESF degree. Like the Early Assurance and Early Admissions programs, ESF students must apply to UMU for admission. A physical therapist can evaluate you without a Doctor's order, but cannot treat you, according to Oklahoma law.

Some patients will need to continue with home exercises. Some may choose to continue with a gym exercise program. Others will complete their rehabilitation and return to normal daily activities. It is important that you communicate your goals to your therapist, so he/she can develop a custom program for you.

Since some medications prescribed by doctors for treatment of legitimate medical conditions have the potential to enhance athletic performance, they are prohibited. A prohibited drug is still prohibited, even it prescribed by a doctor. If you have asthma or diabetes, you may submit a medical notification form to USADA and the IAAF prior to competition requesting permission to use certain medications. Such requests must be approved prior to use of the medication.

Most medications are safe in breastfeeding but a few are not. Sometimes doctors are not completely familiar with the most current information on medications and breastfeeding, so it does not hurt to double check your doctor's advice, especially if you are advised to stop breastfeeding. Forty-three states have some form of direct access. Some state physical therapy practice acts require a diagnosis before a patient can see a therapist (this is the case in California, Michigan, and Colorado to name a few). Other states allow patients to go directly to physical therapists. In most cases, if you are not making significant improvement within 30 days, the therapist will refer you to/back to your physician.

However, because of the time involved in completing these documents, there is a $25 service charge. This fee is due at the time you pick up the forms. The Family and Medical Leave Act, effective August 5, 1993, requires an employer to maintain coverage under any group health plan for an employee on FMLA leave under the same conditions coverage would have been provided if the employee had continued working. Coverage provided under the FMLA is not COBRA coverage, and FMLA leave is not a qualifying event under COBRA.
