Martin does not recommend using guitar polish on a satin finish instrument, however, it will not harm the guitar. You may notice after time the finish will begin to shine unevenly. To clean the guitar, Martin suggests using a warm, damp cotton cloth to wipe it down and then a dry cotton cloth to finish drying it off. This will remove harmful chemicals.

Most woodstains and varnishes are relatively thin and over time the flatting agents may settle out into fairly solid layers on the bottom of the can. Applying an incompletely stirred mid sheen product often results in a high gloss coating on the timber as a large proportion of the flatting agents are left at the base of the container. We like to use a clear lacquer. A product by Deft is very good finish that can be sprayed on the model. For all "glossy" Taylor models, we recommend a non-abrasive (very important!) carnauba wax or a brand-name guitar polish to rub out minor scratches and to preserve the high-gloss finish. However, our 300 and 400 Series models, two of the four Taylor acoustic basses, our 100 and 200 Series, and all Baby Taylors have a "satin" (non-gloss) finish. Our members seem to prefer the kits from Stuart-MacDonald largely because they include both a full-size plan and an instructional video, and because with their kits you get the option of a bolt-on neck. Julian prefers acoustic guitars and plays a 1957 Gibson, a 12 string Taylor and a CJ 32 Yamaha. The Satin finish is a matte finish and the easiest to maintain. Because it has a low sheen, it is very forgiving insofar as showing scratches, dents, and wear and tear over time. The Semi Gloss finish has some shine and is a little harder to maintain in that it will show scratches, dents and wear and tear sooner. From time to time Martin will change the type of strings used on new Martin guitars. Generally, all non-cutaway dreadnoughts and jumbos get medium gauge. I find a rigid dinghy powered by oars is the most practical. Inflatable dinghies with powerful motors are fast and the dinghy takes up less space when stowed, but they are a prime target for thieves and are easy to vandalize. I saw one dinghy flat on the beach in the islands sliced end to end by a boy who thought it a great joke. Martin will not refuse to register your guitar if all proper documentation is received by them after the thirty-day period. They do ask the paperwork be submitted within the thirty-day period because they have found if not handled within that time frame, the paperwork will be set aside and neglected.
