InfoView supports both the NTSC and PAL formats. NTSC is used in the U.S. and by many countries on the American continents as well as many Asian countries, including Japan. PAL is used in most Western European countries, except for France. SECAM is used in France and many Eastern European countries but is not currently supported by InfoView.

NTSC is the North American standard format for videos. North America includes both Canada and the USA. PAL is the standard format in Europe for videos. Most European machines can play both NTSC and PAL formats now. You will have to check with your area to find out what format you require. There are two basic formats of television signal. In the UK and Europe (and Japan) the standard is called 'PAL', yet in America the standard format is 'NTSC'. DVD discs can be encoded in either of these two formats, and this should not be confused with Region Coding as this is something completely different. These are two different TV picture standards. Region 2 (Europe) uses the PAL standard whereas region 1 (USA and Canada) uses the NTSC standard. DVD-V has the same NTSC vs. PAL problem as videotape and laserdisc. The MPEG video on DVD is stored in digital format, but it's formatted for one of two mutually incompatible television systems: 525/60 (NTSC) or 625/50 (PAL/SECAM). First check you have a European model PowerShot A5. Switch it to [PLAY] mode, then once the image is displayed press the [SET] and [JUMP] keys together. This takes you to the language selection menu and if you see ten languages listed you have a European PowerShot A5 with PAL only video output. PAL and NTSC are the television standards for different parts of the world. There is also a third - SECAM. NTSC covers the United States, Canada, Japan, and a few other places. SECAM covers France and Russia. PAL covers the rest of the world. PAL, SECAM, & NTSC are basically a different way of displaying the picture on the television. Yes. Today, most TVs have audio/video input jacks (yellow and white plugs that connects with the yellow and white ends on A/V cables) and the InfoView connects to them. If you have an older TV that does not have A/V input jacks, then you may have to buy an adapter called an RF modulator which converts the audio/video inputs to the coaxial format (a standard connector for antennas or cable-TV). Can I read/write PAL video on an NTSC camera, or the opposite, via firewire? This question is particularly important when buying VHS tapes. If you live in North America or Japan, your VCR is (most likely) set up to only play NTSC VHS tapes. If you live in Europe or Australia, your VCR is (most likely) set up to only play PAL VHS tapes.
