Depends on the individual, but most hikers find that a down or synthetic bag rated at +20? F is a good compromise between warmth and weight/bulk. You might choose to add a VBL (vapor barrier liner) at Kennedy Meadows in early season for the high Sierra, or a 5? F bag. Otherwise you will probably be a little chilly at times. Most hikers carry a light sleeping pad, but some insulate themselves from the ground with only clothing and gear.

While some hostels do provide linen free of charge, others will apply a charge for this service. All hostels provide duvets or blankets and private rooms will usually include linen. Once again, it is worth checking the hostel's microsite before travelling. Sleeping bags are sometimes not allowed, as they may carry bed bugs.

This only applies to Schooner Martha, Island Odyssey, Island Roamer and Snow Goose. The majority of our trips take place in wilderness areas where there are no laundry facilities. We ask you to bring your sleeping bag to simplify things. We provide a pillow and a small fleece blanket to be put on top of a sleeping bag for added warmth if necessary.

In the majority of cases all camping equipment will be provided for you. If you need to bring a sleeping bag your consultant will advise you of this. Park's fees are generally included in the overall trip cost. Your consultant will advise you of any park's fees that must be paid direct i.e. US $5 white water rafting river usage fee at Victoria Falls.

In winter you will definitely need a good sleeping bag. If you don't have one of your own, you can hire one from us ($15).

Because if you are, you would be left in the station holding to your sleeping bag, be advised and warned that managers will not pick you up from the station if you look like you didn't shower for hundred years. Everybody expect clean and new places. We don't expect you to be new buy we do expect you to be clean and look clean and not smoke in our rooms.( Be very much aware of that!)

All campers will use sleeping bags. Two week campers will go on at least one overnight camping experience.

Your sleeping bag should be rated to at least twenty degrees below zero. It can be either down or synthetic fill. Down has the advantage of packing smaller and being a superior insulator ounce-for-ounce. However, down's insulating properties rapidly decline if it gets wet or damp. If you bring a down bag we strongly recommend the use of a Vapor Barrier Liner (VBL), especially on longer trips.

Nope. If you really dig your bag, bring it, but otherwise go ahead and save space when packing - we include sleeping bags on our treks.

Woodleaf provides a blanket and a pillow for each bed. Each guest will need to bring linens or a sleeping bag.
