Most of the local and souvenir shops in Male’ accept all major credit cards but none of these shops can get you cash from your card. There are two or three merchants who get can get you limited cash and this is only possible during weekdays as these merchants will be issuing you a cash check which you will have to en-cash it from the bank. The ATM's at the moment are only for locals and will not accept your credit or debit card.

Late last year Couples installed ATMs at all three resorts. However, you receive Jamaican currency. There is a conversion fee as well, and your bank will also probably charge a fee. The cheapest way is to use your credit card, debit card or cash to make purchases at the resort and in town. At Couples you can charge the items to your room and pay when you leave. Most of the stores in town accept at least one of the big three (MC, Visa and Amex).

Yes there is - a cash handling fee of 2.5% or ?2.5, whichever is higher, is applied to the amount you withdraw from an ATM / Cash Machine.

To get cash at the ATM, insert your card into the machine and enter your PIN. Select "checking" to make a withdrawal and enter the amount of cash you want to withdraw. Then take your cash, card, and receipt to keep track of your balance.
