Yes, but we don't recommend it. It may sound like a good idea to take your pet to a national park but there is little you can do with them while you are here. Pets must always by on a leash or confined. They may not be left unattended in the campgrounds. They must remain on roads or in developed areas, so no hiking with them on trails or cross country. The good news is you can walk them (on leash, of course) on backcountry roads.

Yes, but at developed sites (i.e. campgrounds, boat ramps, parking areas, picnic grounds and office locations) dogs must be restrained at all times on a leash of not more than six feet in length. A leash is not required on roads and hiking trails unless these facilities occur in developed sites. Yes, there is a danger of heatstroke. We advise you to avoid bringing your dog to the park during the heat of the day. Long-haired breeds are in particular danger of overheating, so keep visits short, make sure your dog is drinking water, and always monitor for signs of heatstroke. Symptoms can appear quickly on our hot, humid Arkansas days. Signs of heat stroke are intense, rapid panting, wide eyes, salivating, staggering and weakness. Advanced victims will collapse and become unconscious.

The “Great Amelia Paw Park” is located in Spencer Shank Park which is located off Robin Way at the south end of Sedona Ridge subdivision. As you turn onto Robin Way you will see Shank Park on the right, turn right at the next street (Canary Drive), The Dog Park is located to the rear of the park behind the detention basin, easily accessible by the blacktopped walking trail.

We welcome well-behaved dogs on leash. We must insist that you do clean up after your canine friends, though. Most of our parks even have "Doggie Pots" where small plastic bags are available for neat and easy cleanup!
