The map data is output in a shape file format. The majority of GIS software will utilize this data format. Please refer to your specific GIS software for specifics on importing.

Unfortunately, we don't have our data in a spatial format. However, you can download a comma-separated file of all CDEC stations from the Station Information page to import into your GIS application. Please note that any number 99.999 or 999.999 is a placeholder and its value is undefined. Also, the longitude will need to be converted to negative.

GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems. GIS on our site is a collection of spatially similar data. In other words, it is a collection of different layers that occur in Outagamie County. Parcels, roads, rivers, addresses and so on are all different layers that occur in the same geographic location. They can be turned on and off to display different features for an individual parcel or for multiple parcels.

Any GIS data you provide us will only be used for your web site and will not be available for distribution or download.

Yes. There is a free software package called ArcExplorer that can be downloaded and used to make maps with our data. The software is put out by ESRI and can be downloaded from their Web site at ESRI. If you only want access to the database portion of our data the shapefiles each have a .dbf file in them. This file is a dbase compliant database file. Our data may not line up with your data if it is in a different projection or at a different scale (resolution).

We have a variety of GIS applications throughout Contra Costa County. Our core GIS software is the ArcGIS suite of software from ESRI. Our central GIS servers run Oracle and ArcSDE. All of our primary data layers, including aerial imagery, are being served from within this environment. Our interactive GIS maps utilize ArcIMS software.

Modules exist to import data into DESS from a number of popular GIS systems, including GIS systems from ESRI, Intergraph, Enghouse and Canmap. Some of these import modules are available from Dromey Design, and some are available from the GIS company. Please contact us for details.

To get census data into GIS, you need to obtain two pieces of information: the actual data, and the boundary files that you will join the data to in order to map it.

In most cases clients provide us with their data and we store it on our servers. However, if you have an existing ArcIMS mapping application using data stored at your facility, we can log into your servers remotely and provide updates.

Yes, you can download the BRFSS data in a GIS shapefile data format. To download the entire data file for a given year, click the "Download GIS Data" link located in the Maps menu at the upper left of this page. That depends on which layer you are referring to. Layers that change often such as parcel lines, parcel text, addresses, road centerlines, etc. Are updated as quickly as the information is filed and processed. planimetric Layers (Building footprints, edge of pavement, sidewalks, etc.) were originally captured from a 1999 aerial flight. Features were then updated in-house from a flight acquired from AT&T (formerly SBC) dated April, 2004.

Yes and they're free. Nearly all map layers presented within our Map Maker are available for use outside the National Atlas. You can download these map layers at no cost using file transfer protocol (FTP). See our Raw Data Download page for more information about downloading National Atlas map layers. You will need to have software which can read FCS files. There are several different programs available for data analysis. The core facility has several software packages available on analysis workstations (G5 and PC) for data analysis.
