The female lays one egg a day. After she lays the last egg there is a two week gestation period before hatching. (Incubation does not start until all the eggs are laid.)

I incubate my eggs at a temperature of 82F, and they take an average of 52 days to hatch. If you use a hotter temperature, they will generally take less time, and cooler temp take longer.

This varies somewhat depending on the type of finch. Usually around 14 days of incubation, but a general range can span 12-18 days. Note that incubation does not begin until the parents start sitting, which frequently will not happen until the 3rd or 4th egg is laid, or sometimes the entire clutch.

I would never personally set double yolk eggs. I have seen deformed chicks in them, but never any that hatched. Sort of like "Siamese twin" chicks, if you like. It's not worth the trouble.

Answer: My simple answer would have to be no, but bear in mind that in a few cases I've accidentally forgotten a hatch and had it turn out alright. I do, however, consider those cases to be the exception, rather than the rule. Some bantams seem to sense, probably due to the hatchling's vocalizations that they are not chickens and will proceed to kill or desert the chicks.

If they're a new "couple", give them a few chances to "get it right". First-time discus parents often don't figure out what to do for the first few spawns. If this doesn't work, you might try removing one parent and seeing if the other one will take care of the fry. If both parents are eating the fry your only real choice is to raise thr fry artificially, but this is a lot of work and they require constant attention. Jack Wattley describes how this is done in one of his books.

Hatching baby brine is relatively easy. You can go the your local pet store and buy a hatching kit which includes brine shrimp eggs and a hatcher and follow the included instructions. Purchase a brine shrimp net if one is not included in the kit. You can also build a hatcher of your own out of a one-gallon jar with an airstone or as I do, use an inverted 3-liter bottle with air feeding from the narrow neck. I cut the bottom out of the bottle and save as a cover.
