It is not intended that you edit the snapshot files, however, there is nothing to prevent you from doing so. It is very easy to corrupt an XML file making it malformed or invalid. Having said that, an XML editor can ease the pain. You must of course understand the XML document structure. That is, the structure of the database snapshot files. If you must edit these snapshot files, then email us for a copy of the DTD.

A flaw in the Web3S infoset design is that we do not specify how to define what language a string is defined in. Unfortunately due to issues such as Han Unification it is necessary in order to properly handle a string to know what language it came from. When we do tackle this problem one would hope we could leverage existing work on xml:lang and specify its use in Application/Web3S+XML.

Reusable schemas. Many industry groups have developed their own XML schemas. To avoid collisions with common names in other schemas, all of them have assigned one or more XML namespaces to their schemas. As a result, it is possible to reuse elements and attributes defined in these schemas in new schemas without worry of name collisions.
