Who can use ResNet?

ITS - ResNet - ResNet FAQs
ResNet, USC's residential network, provides users with network connectivity in residence halls, Leavey Library, and some academic buildings. You are expected to have read the USC Computing Policies before using ResNet.

What type of Ethernet connection does ResNet use? How long does the patch cable need to be?

HSU Residential Network
Our ResNet program uses 100base-T. Our entire ResNet program uses standard RJ-45 type connectors for our connections. Crossover Ethernet cables will not work on our system. The length of your patch cable will depend on where you decide to place your computer in your room. For most areas a 25-foot patch cable will allow you to place your computer anywhere in your room. [ back to top ] ResNet uses DHCP and this information will be provided automatically to your computer when it connects to ResNet.

Do I have to have to use ResNet or can I get by with a wireless card?

Office of Information Technology
The wireless locations on campus are not intended to service residence hall rooms, although you may be able to use a wireless card in the public areas of your residence hall. If you want to use your computer from your room without using a modem, you must register it with ResNet.

What rules govern the use of ResNet?

Bristol University - Information Services - FAQs (Frequently...
All ResNet users are bound by the general regulations and conditions of service for University of Bristol computing facilities and additional regulations for the use of ResNet. You sign to agree to these terms when you apply for ResNet. In short, you can do anything legal which conforms to the regulations and doesn't interfere with other users. So, in moderation, you can play games, read on-line newspapers, transfer files, send email and whatever else you want to do.

Who can use ResNet services?

Resnet FAQ

I can't use ResNet. What should I do?

ITS - ResNet - ResNet FAQs
Check to ensure that your computer's MAC address has been properly registered. Go to the Network Registration web page and login with your username and password. Check to make sure that the Ethernet card and software drivers are properly installed and the card is inserted firmly into the proper slot, if applicable. Verify that your network cable is correctly plugged into the Ethernet card on the back of your computer and ensure that it is firmly inserted to the data jack in the wall.

Can I use file sharing on Resnet?

ITS - ResNet - ResNet FAQs
Yes. However, please note that file sharing through the use of any client or protocol is not supported by ITS, and excessive use will result in the automatic disabling of the network connection. Don't I need an IP address assigned specifically to my computer? No. ResNet uses dynamically assigned IP addresses. Each time your computer establishes a network connection, you will be assigned a new IP address.

Can I use dialup (DIAL) while on ResNet?

NYU > ITS > Help & Support > FAQs & Tutoria...

Why do I need to register my computer for ResNet access?

ResNet @ UNI
All computers must be registered in order to provide the most secure computing environment possible. In order to register, computers must pass a test certifying that they are up-to-date on patches, have our current anti-virus program installed, and will continue to automatically update both. Since viruses spread through networks, this minimizes the possible sources of infection to yourself and any other computers.
