My rat has red stuff on his nose and eyes. Is he bleeding?

untitled
Most likely, no. Ratty eye and nasal mucus is tinted red and looks a lot like blood. The red tint is called porphyrin and the mucus itself is often referred to as porphyrin. Porphyrin on your rat could mean that he's a bit stressed out or that there's something in his environment irritating him, such as dusty litter, or it could be an indication of illness.

Your cartoon persons are missing some facial features like eyes, nose, or mouth. Why is that?

Frequently Asked Questions & Help
When designing Paper Follies' cartoon persons, our goal was to create a signature line of cartoons uniquely stylized while being customizable representations of the real life people they are based upon. In doing so, we chose to have suggestive faces where some features (like eyes, or nose, or mouth) are DELIBERATELY left out while extra details are added to the hair, body, and outfits. The end result is very original and stylish cartoons in which you can see yourself immediately. Back to top See similar questions...

Why do my rat's eyes bulge in and out?

Pet Rats Information, Care and Training Resource | FancyPetR...
Sometimes, a rat's eyes may vibrate rapidly in and out of the eye socket, a phenomenon called eye boggling. This odd eyeball movement often occurs at the same time as bruxing, or tooth grinding (See above). The reason bruxing and eye boggling occur together is anatomical: a part of the muscle that pulls up the rat's lower jaw passes through the eye socket, behind the eyeball. See similar questions...

What's that stuff around Rufo's eyes?

Rufo FAQ
Rufo doesn't like to talk about the gunky resin that gathers around his eyes. Its something he can't stop from happening, but he can minimize its impact by constantly cleaning himself. My rat has a reddish-looking discharge coming from his eyes. It looks bloody. What is this?

Hillsboro Veterinary Clinic Information
Chromodacryorrhea, or "red tears," occurs normally in rats. A rat's tears contain porphyrins (pigments) which impart the reddish color. These porphyrins are secreted by the Harderian glands, which are located behind the eyes. When a rat is sick or under stressful conditions, the Harderian glands will secrete an increased amount of porphyrins, making the tears look redder, even bloody. The tears may also appear around the nostrils. As the tears dry, they may resemble dried or crusted blood. See similar questions...

Why do people's eyes turn out red in my pictures?

Stylus Zoom 140 > Frequently Asked Questions
All cameras with a built-in flash, regardless of brand or model, produce some degree of what is called red-eye, because the light from the flash reflects off blood vessels in the retina of people's eyes. Fair, blue-eyed people and young children are particularly prone to showing red-eye in photographs, but the closer any person is to the lens, and the more powerful the flash, the more red-eye becomes apparent. My Teddy bear needs new eyes, nose and mouth. Can you do this?

Frequently Asked Questions - Doll's Hospital
Poor teddy. If it is just nose and mouth then the cost of repair would be ?5. Replacement plastic safety eyes would cost ?5. I have a page on the repair section of the web site which illustrates the different styles of eyes and noses. Most teddies of that era - mine dates from 1949 - had stitched noses. My teddies' nose is satin, stitched with a black thread. You can choose which you think would look best, or is nearest to the original nose. I have a very limited supply of glass teddy eyes.
