Shockwave was started by three programmers at KFAI, Charles E. Hamilton III, Everett Forte and Chris Dronen. At the time, the station was only a year old and was very small, broadcasting a 10-watt mono signal "exclusive to parts of South Mpls". After a few weeks of playing sf music, Chris and Everett came to a local con and asked if anyone was interested in helping out. The next week I and a few other fen showed up.

The domain name was purchased on August 8, 2001. It launched for beta testers only on December 2nd, 2001 before opening to the public on January 1, 2002. Most recently, it's new contest types (text, animation, writing, photography and 3d) launched on March 12, 2003.

Shockwave is a weekly radio program without a format. I specialize in science fiction humor and science fact with a spin, but it is and has been much more, and much less.
