If you got your food handler card by attending a class from Marion County or online through www.foodhandler.org, a replacement card can be obtained at our office for a fee of $5. If you think you got sick from eating at a restaurant Marion County call us at 503-588-5346 to file a complaint. Be prepared to provide us with information about specific foods eaten, symptoms you experienced and a history of food consumed several days prior to onset of symptoms.

No documentation is required to enroll in a food handler class. However, if you have a drivers license, Social Security card or other form of identification, the THD Food Handler Office may refer to it to assure proper spelling of your name.

A certified Food Handler is an owner, operator or any other person at least (18) years of age who has supervisory responsibility for the preparation of food or oversight of the operation and who has a valid Certified Food Handler Certificate issued by one of the approved food safety certification examination providers.

The Indiana State Department of Health Rule 410 IAC 7-22, Certification of Food Handler Requirements took effect January 1, 2005. Any person, who handles, prepared, serves, sells or gives away food for consumption by persons other than his or her immediate family. The requirement applies to all food workers including persons washing or bussing dishes, serving foods, and preparing drinks, but not to a hostess merely seating guests and supply menus. Additionally, the requirement does not apply to establishments serving all pre-packaged foods.

The County of Orange does not have a law requiring a food handler's card for employees of food facilities. Food facilities are required to have at least one owner or manager with a valid food safety certificate.

Who pays the Fee is a contractual matter between you and the Food vendor. The Fee is due when the application is submitted at least 14 days prior to the event.

It depends on the type and volume of food being composted. Small operations may not require a permit (i.e., currently, those with less than 500 cubic yards of certain types of food scraps). If a relatively small amount of vegetable waste is composted onsite, a permit is probably not required. Prior to starting a compost operation, consult the current composting regulations and contact your local enforcement agency for guidance on any local permit requirements.
