Every two years, the Personnel Department conducts civil service testing for public safety employees. Those candidates who successfully complete the testing are either given full time positions or are placed on an eligibility list and hired when a job vacancy occurs. Individuals applying for a peace officer position in California are required to meet several statewide minimum standards for employment. These standards include: Local law enforcement departments may set higher standards than the statewide minimum standards. Where there are no statewide minimum standards, the local hiring authority may set a standard, e.g. vision and hearing standards. This is why some standards vary from department to department.

The Sandy City Police Department accepts applications for Police Officer only during an open recruitment process. To apply, you must submit a standard Sandy City employment application along with the police application addendum. In addition, you must include a copy of your resume, your POST entrance exam score (80% minimum), and type test results (30 wpm minimum). All five of these items must be included with your application or you will not be invited to the next step in the testing process.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, HazMat Awareness and HazMat Operations certification or be enrolled in classes to obtain these certifications in order to apply. Firefighters must also be at least First Responder certified by date of appointment. Effective 9/1/07 you must have an EMT license from the State of Missouri or National Registry by date of appointment and must maintain the licensure throughout your career as a firefighter.

If the violation took place within his jurisdiction the answer is yes. If the violation took place outside his jurisdiction the answer is less clear. There may be interagency agreements that allow police to exercise their authority outside their jurisdictions. There may also be state laws that allow inter-jurisdictional enforcement actions. One point to remember, the officer that observed the violation and issued the citation is the only person that can testify against you.

The National Guard has an warrant officer enlistment option (see below). In all other cases, to apply for a position as a Signal warrant officer you must be an enlisted soldier on Active duty or in the National Guard or Army Reserve. There are no additional plans at this point to access Signal warrant officers from the civilian sector. First you must meet all the practical experience requirements for the MOS.
