Mold spores are tiny bacteria less than 4 microns in size -- so small that as many as 250,000 spores can fit on a pinhead and a person can inhale as many as 750,000 of these spores per minute! To help comprehend how small mycotoxins are, one common housefly could carry about 7.35 billion attached to its external body hairs. Consequently, IF 50,000 constitute a theoretically lethal dose, a housefly could carry a lethal dose for over 100,000 individuals.

If you see mold growth, water stains, dripping water supply lines, etc., it is a good idea to have a Certified Mold Inspector test that surface and the indoor air for an accurate representation of mold spores. Where there is no visible mold growth, but there is a musty or moldy odor, again, have the air inspected. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

None of the spores sold by our company are dangerous. Some, like many Psilocybes and Panaeolus, will produce mushrooms containing the controlled substance psilocybin. These mushrooms can produce hallucinogenic effects and it should be noted that production of psilocybin and psilocin is illegal within the US. Spores from these species are offered for microscopy purposes only.

A fungus problem usually starts with an injury or harsh chemicals under the nail plate at the free edge, creating a pocket in which the fungus can develop. It grows through the nail, turning black/green when reaching the top. Filing will not kill it, This type of problem must be looked at by a doctor. Yeast is perhaps the most common. The free edge pulls away from the plate, and if not checked can continue to the matrix area. Mold can happen anywhere moisture collects.

Anything can mold as long as there is moisture or a food source. Carpet, including those made of natural fibers such as wool, that is kept clean and dry shouldn’t have a mold problem.
