Answer: I had my hair highlighted blonde (not by choice unfortunately) about 2 years prior to getting it done. There was still a lot of blonde at the ends of my hair. I then had my hair highlighted in the same appointment as my magic straight. I didn't see any problems and my hair seems to be okay now.
