Fiberglass and carbon fiber hoods can “post cure” after production. What is post cure? Post curing occurs when resin gets hot or hotter than it did during the production process and the resin actually shrinks and moves, resulting in heat marks or small dings that can look like hail dents. This normally occurs on hot, sunny days or when your engine gets extremely hot, raising the temperature of the hood.

The primary standard relating to laboratory fume hood exhaust is ANSI Z9.5 (1992). The entire standard can be ordered from The American Industrial Hygiene Association. Should you wish to familiarize yourself with the exhaust parameters of the standard, you may order an extract from Strobic Air.

For maximum performance keep the duct straight and short. Use the shortest route with the fewest turns possible. 45° turns are better than 90° turns. Be sure to use an external roof or wall cap. No. You should never exhaust air into spaces within walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces or garages. The humidity and grease collect in the space. Do not install in-line or external fans to boost a hood that has its own power unit. In general, attempting that type of "boost" will not be effective.

The "Classic" 427SC had competition pipes under the doors. Being real race cars, the finish was not particularly important, and they were typically painted with a simple high temperature paint - usually white (see the top picture), sometimes black. No gloss, and the paint didn't stand up very well. On the other hand, a simple spray can would rejuvenate the pipes. Some people, wanting a more durable finish, have there pipes ceramic coated.
