Palace Resorts offers a daily courtesy bus service from the Moon / Sunrise Palace to Sun Palace, Beach Palace and Cancun Palace several times a day on a first come first served policy. There is also a courtesy bus once a day leaving the Aventura / Spa Palace and to the downtown Palace Resorts and Moon / Sunrise Palace. There is also a public bus for transportation that offers service in downtown Cancun and the hotel zone.

The only legal gambling in Mexico is sports betting. There are no legal casinos in Mexico. Some resorts do have Casino Nights, but you don't play for money, you play for prizes. Some resorts have slot machines, but the prize is not cash. Your winnings are in the form of vouchers that are good only for stuff at "that" resort. Check the resort for details.

First, present your Tourist Card with the legal items mentioned above. Then proceed to customs where you will be instructed to push a button which activates a light. If the light turns green, you may proceed. If the light turns red, your luggage will be searched through. The light is purely random, so don't be insulted if you get a red light! It's more convenient to fly directly into Cozumel International Airport. Our representative will meet you there and escort you to the airport van (we pay for the tickets). There is no commercial airline service between Cancun and Cozumel. To get to Cozumel from Cancun you have to take a bus (cheap) or taxi (expensive) for a 45-minute ride to the ferries at Playa del Carmen, which go every hourly for the 35 minute ride to Cozumel. You then take a 5-minute taxi ride to our building.

Car rental is handled at the front desk of your Palace Resort lobby. You must be at least 19 years of age and have a major credit card in order to rent a vehicle. Prices are extremely reasonable, but beware of trickery at the gas stations to cheat you of your hard earned "pesos". Also, be sure to check with your insurance company to see if you are covered while driving in Mexico. If not, you will be required to purchase additional temporary insurance.

Most of us who come frequently to the Akumal area spent our first vacations in Cancun. When Dave and I spent our honeymoon in Cancun in 1987, we enjoyed the tours to snorkel and to the ruins, the beautiful beaches and the shopping. It was a more relaxed Cancun then - believe it or not it was hard to find a place to give you ice cubes in your drink! Many of the large hotels on the strip weren't even built yet. Then Cancun went through a "boom".

Normally it will take approx. an hour to clear immigration, retrieve your luggage and clear customs. If you are picking up a rental car, expect another 30 to 60 minutes to handle this task. Unless your flight stopped in Mexico before arriving in Cancun, your first delay will be with immigration where you will present the immigration form and your identification.
