Light bulbs hum when filaments vibrate. Using a lower wattage or different brand bulb will usually prevent or reduce light bulb hum.

The C7 & C9 LED light strings on our website do not have removable bulbs. The reason is that the manufacturer wanted to reduce moisture-related problems, so they sealed the bulbs. This does tend to work pretty well, as I had a string of C9 bulbs on the fence in front of our shop for 3 or 4 years. They were still working when the tornado destroyed them in April. All fluorescent lights require a ballast to function. Both magnetic and electronic fluorescent ballasts give off a slight humming noise; harmonics is the technical term. By design an electronic ballast has reduced harmonics and therefore the hum is less noticeable than when using a magnetic ballast. If the hum is louder than usual the ballast may need to be replaced. Size H3 (55 watt OEM) for driving lights, they come with the little white wire. As for the headlights, 9004. I have the Narva Range Power's and am pleased with them. Keep your fingers off these bulbs when installing because the oils from them will get on the glass of the bulb and cause the bulb to overheat and ultimately a premature life. For reflector bulbs like an R20 or an MR16 Lux is more important than Lumens. Lux is a measurement of light on a surface. Reflector bulbs are available with different beam spreads. A bulb with the same wattage and a narrower beam will have a higher Lux.
