What is "Flint Glass"?

Sean George Pressed Glass and Goblets - pressedglassandgoble...

Sean George Pressed Glass and Goblets - pressedglassandgoble...
Non-Flint" is a term used for glass produced after the "Lead" period or after the U.S. Civil War. When the Civil war began, glass makers were told they could not use lead, as it was to be reserved for bullets during the war. They soon discovered a means to continue to produce glass without lead, by simply not adding it. All "Pressed Glass" from this point on was produced "Unleaded" or "Non-Flint", as it was cheaper to produce.

Crystal was produced after the civil war in Canada and the U.S.A, as well as Europe and Great Britain. It has a greater lead content and is a finer type of glass, making it less durable. It can be molded, blown, cut by hand or machine cut. No! This has been an old wives tale for several years.

What about broken glass?

The Barefoot FAQ
Yes, broken glass exists, but it is not "all over the place" even on city streets. Unless it's a recent breakage, it gets kicked or swept into cracks, against walls, or right against curbs and isn't strewn about. For the little glass that does remain, again, just watch where you're going! But, for the seasoned barefooter with tough, thick soles, most broken glass is not a problem even if you step directly on it. The following paragraph was contributed by Neil Kelley.

What is "leaded glass", and is it the same as "stained glass"?

FAQs
These terms are often used interchangeably; however, leaded glass properly refers to a specific technique for constructing stained glass panels or windows. This method is quite like a jigsaw puzzle. Glass is cut to individual shapes which fit together to form a pattern or picture. Lead cames (channeled lead strips produced for this purpose) are then used to join the pieces of glass to form a panel. Where the lead meets, solder is applied.
