Octetruss, to use the trademarked moniker, is an OCtahedral and TETrahedral complementary grid implemented in such a way as to form a structural truss. A truss is an engineering mechanism for dispersing loads across a relatively long span, to enable coverage of large, primarily horizontal areas with a minimum of underpinning supports (posts). Most trusses appear to be arranged to act independently of one another, whereas the members of an Octetruss are all part of the whole unit.

Your truss rod should be adjusted when your neck develops a bit of a bow in it. The reason for the bow is a combination of the string tension that is constantly applied to the neck along with changes in relative humidity. Humidity is the most important part of this equation. No attachment "needs" octet-stream. octet-stream is a label that describes the attachment as being "a stream of octets". What is that you say? Well, the application didn't know any more specifics and thus it identified it as good as possible. It knows it is a stream of octets, nothing else. So, an attachment coming as "octet-stream" can be pretty much ANYTHING. You have no idea, and neither does anyone else.

Hi! I just wanted to put down in writing some things I've observed while tweaking truss rods, in case someone else might benefit from them. I am not a luthier and I don't play one on TV. I have, however, done light repairs and adjustments on my instruments over the thirty-two years I've been playing. Though they influence this discussion, in the interest of brevity, I'm eliminating the influence of the bridge height, neck angle, and nut height (though I will reference the nut later).

Yes, if your trusses/rafters line up with where you want your Hoister mounted, it can be installed directly into ceiling trusses. You may need to run a short cross beam between trusses in order to mount the organizer. If necessary, you can install the two 2" x 6" x 6' boards to align the system so you can lift the object straight off your vehicle without the system pulling from side-to-side.

Absolutely. However, please be sure to let us know if you would like us to cut the truss rod slot and bore the truss rod nut's pocket or leave it plain. You can also order the kit with all of the truss rod parts, but without having us put the rod in (so that you can do it). If you plan to use carbon fiber or some other truss rod system, our truss rod slots are 1/4" (6.35mm) wide and are cut at a slope from the nut down to the heel to keep the rod as low as possible in the neck.

No: 12X12 Light Duty and 12X12 Tower trusses look quite similar. However the construction is different. Light Duty must not be used as an upright, but Tower will function regular truss or as an upright.
