LAPS is the Local Analysis and Prediction System. It uses a broad set of observations to produce a gridded analysis for various weather elements for this local area. It typically runs on a 10 km resolution grid. MSAS is the MAPS Surface Assimilation System. It is a national analysis that uses METARs and local (LDAD) observations to generate a surface grid at a 60 km resolution. IFPS is the Interactive Forecast Preparation System.

There are lots of ways to get in laps -- practice days, morning practice, Championship races, running a division with multiple classes. In the actual event, you are only guaranteed one lap. After that it's up to you to get more laps. You must win in order to advance and race more. It depends how many drivers are registered in a class as to how many laps each event will run.

In the SLO Triathlon, you will be swimming widths instead of laps so that more participants will fit in the pool at one time. Each swimmer will swim 18 laps, a total of 36 widths.

NSC is a lot more than laps. Or starts & turns. Yes you will be expected to practice your strokes and swim laps but we also have a lot of fun. There are games of Shark and Chicken. We usually have a couple of team outings to places like Bowl-O-Rama, the Newington Skate Center, and LaserQuest. Meets are competitive and often very exciting. More than anything else it is a great group of kids (and parents) ? and coaches that have a great time together.

Courses such as ECON 8700 (Econometrics and Forecasting Methods), ECON 8720 (Multivariate Data Analysis), ECON 8740 (Quantitative Decision Models in Economics and Finance), ECON 8760 (Simulation and Risk Analysis) are examples of courses that would substitute for courses in MSAS. Other courses would be considered on a case by case basis. MATH 1190 (Calculus I) and MATH 2202 (Calculus II) are offered every semester. These would prepare students for the calculus part of the program.

The speed difference between the women and the pro/1/2 race doesn't leave enough room for the women to complete three laps without being caught by the pro/1/2 men.

The depth of understanding of statistics depends on a basic knowledge of calculus. The focus of the MSAS program is to develop graduates that have in-depth knowledge of the techniques they will be using. "Plugging into" formulas or computer a routine is not the objective. This approach will enable students to develop meaningful careers and be in demand in the marketplace.

Every Reply Message from the IFPUV contains the phrase "This message has been sent by a test system and must not be used operationally". This message is added to ensure that there is no confusion between submissions to the test system and those to the operational IFPS. The IFPUV is an un-manned, automated system so there is no on-line help available.

Short course: 1/2 mile = 18 laps (over and back (50 yards) equals 1 lap, 1 mile = 36 laps; Long course: 1/2 mile = 9 laps (down and back (100 meters) equals 1 lap, 1 mile = 18 laps.

All paid entrants will have access to three separate dynamic Driving Skills courses, which include the practice track. We strongly encourage you attend these Driving Skills courses so you'll know what to expect when you get to the competition phase of the event. We also recommend that you attend the instructional classroom sessions as well. If you have time, you can test your skills on the Karting track, too. Not necessarily.

You can take Math 1190 Calculus I and Math 2202 Calculus II if you want additional preparation. These classes are offered in the day and evening. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a Minor Degree in Applied Statistics and Data Analysis. The courses required for the minor will help prepare you for MSAS and give you experience that will be useful. There are many commercial products that have self-study material for calculus.

If you have never taken a calculus course, you can take Math 1190 Calculus I and Math 2202 Calculus II. These classes are offered in the day and evening. If you have taken a calculus course in the past, but feel a little "rusty", you can enroll in the STAT 7000 course offered each summer before the program begins. This is called the Boot Camp Option for the MSAS program. This course is used to review the mathematics essential to the program.

It is a tax-effective health plan set up by Congress to provide health benefits for self-employed persons (sole proprietors, partners, LLC, S-Corp usually) and small businesses (50 and under). However, many companies that provide custodial accounts for MSAs are now planning to roll those MSAs over into HSAs. Some companies may allow individuals who already own an MSA to keep it, but the advantages to an HSA would encourage most individuals to roll to an HSA.

HSAs are portable. HSA-eligible high-deductible health plans have lower deductible requirements and higher out-of-pocket limits than MSAs, making the accounts more flexible and accessible than MSAs. HSAs, unlike MSAs, may be offered as part of an employer's "cafeteria" plan. HSA tax-deductible contribution limits are greater than those for MSAs.

For qualifying practice, a maximum of 12 laps is allowed and any driver running over the maximum of 12 laps will have its best qualifying time withdrawn. The number of laps is no longer limited for the free practice sessions, including the warm-up.

The HSA allows any eligible individual (see IRS link above for eligible individuals) to open a Health Savings Account, not just the self-employed and small companies who were provided for in MSAs. Also, HSAs allow individuals to contribute amounts equal to the deductible (subject to a cap of $2,600 for individuals and $5,150 for families), rather the the MSA restriction of only 65% for individuals and 75% for families. In addition, all of the advantages of the MSA are incorporated in the HSA.
