MD5 checksums files are not exclusive to SHN files. An MD5 checksum can be used to ensure the accuracy of any data file (e.g. .doc, .mp3, .mpeg). Some seeders produce MD5 checksums for their WAV files, as well as for their SHN files. This is just an extra level of confirm to ensure exact copies of the original WAV files are being burned from the SHN files. Checking a WAV file with a MD5 cheksum is no different than checking a SHN file.

MD5 files contain checksums, strings of characters used to uniquely represent a file. These checksums enable users to verify that music files downloaded correctly. A recommended tool for creating these files is MD5summer. Please note that before uploading the MD5 created with this tool you should open the MD5 in a text editor and remove the top 3 lines so the first signature is now flush with the top of the file.

MetaSynth currently looks at the file 'type' rather than the file extension. AIFF files that originate on the Mac usually have the file type set correctly but files created on PCs usually don't. If you have a file type utility (such as File Typer or File Buddy), check to make sure that the file type is AIFF. If there is enough interest expressed to us, we will create a 'droplet' application that will set the type correctly.

Before CDex 1.10 you can only encode WAV files, but not the other way around. There are several tools available which can do this job. Take a look at www.mp3.com and look for utilities like WinAmp or MaPlay.

Check to make sure the FTP program you used to upload the files is set to "binary" mode. If you try to upload .shn or .flac files in "ASCII" mode the files will fail the MD5 check. ASCII is the standard format for encoding plain text files (actually a subset of binary), while binary is used to encode almost all other types of files. More information on binary vs. ASCII can be found here. If this does not solve the problem, be sure that all the file names in the MD5 file match the .

The WAV MD5 checksums are ignored by our robot. Do not worry if you see that the WAV MD5 checksums fail, the shows will be imported as soon as possible.

To do this, open Windows Explorer and locate the Sculptor brain wave file folder. By default, these files should be located in the following folder: From Windows Explorer, double click on any of these files and you should hear a short 2 second sound file play. If you can’t hear this file, you will need to check you Windows audio equipment. Tip: An alternative to using the Sculptor 3 “Brain Wave” player, is to user a product distributed by BWGen.

Change the output preferences to Wave File (silent). In the newer versions of WinAMP, the output preferences is actually under the "Input" tab. Click Options|Preferences|Input Tab, select one of Nullsoft's Plug-In decoders, click on "Configure", then the "Output" tab, and change the output Device to ".WAV File (Silent)" (this specific info refers to version 1.92)

If you download .wav files, download them directly to the c:\program files\iplaynet folder and no further steps are necessary. If you receive .wav files in ICQ, click the "Save As" button at the start of the file transfer, double click on C:, scroll down and double click on Program Files, and then click on IPlaynet. Click OK to start transfer. If you have .wav files in another folder on your drive that you'd like to play in IPlay, open Windows Explorer and drag the .

Versions prior to 0.6.3 have problem playing 16 bit wav files on the SPARC platform (I think x86 should work ok, though). If these are the problem, please upgrade. There are problems playing 8 bit wavs; I assume this is due to the coversion routines not working correctly. I'll try to fix this ASAP. an aside, given how long these bugs went unreported shows just how few people are using XMMS to play .

We chose to limit the file formats only to 16 bit signed .WAV files (and 24 bit in the near future), a standard for high quality audio processing under Windows systems. Our applications are not sample editors, or audio file converters.
