If you have AOL 7.0 or newer, you can configure it to work with our software. However, you must first make AOL the Windows default e-mail program. In the 'Preferences' dialog, click on the 'Association' link to select 'America Online' as your preferred application for web browsing, e-mail and newsgroups. This should make AOL your default program for e-mail, Internet browsing, and accessing newsgroups. Once you've done that, you should be able to transmit messages directly from our software.

With the variety of different email programs that are available, we cannot provide all the details for each and every one of them. All of them should have the same basic required settings for accessing your email. These are: For SMTP access to send email using your SMTP server, set your Outgoing Mail Server to: mail.yourdomain.

If you choose not to use VPN from off-campus and still want to send email through your own broadband provider, you will need to configure your mail client settings as described in the document Configuring Eudora Email When Off-campus. The FxFoto EMail feature is compliant with AOL versions 7, 8 and 9. It is not compliant with AOL versions 4, 5 and 6. If you have one of these early versions of AOL, you should upgrade to allow the FxFoto EMail feature to work with AOL email. If you still cannot send email using AOL 7 or greater using the EMail button in FxFoto, then it is likely that AOL is not set as the default email client on your system.

Many antivirus products automatically intercept email traffic to your computer with no changes required to your email programs. However, many still use a "proxy" mode, similar to how K9 operates, that requires changes in your email program settings to tell it to use the antivirus program to check your emails.

There are two options to configure Stay Connected!, Configuration Wizard and Advanced Configurations, you do not need to run both, just the wizard or the Advanced. For beginners, you should use the Wizard as it sets all the basics for you without worrying every single setting: To Access Configuration Wizard, right click on Stay Connected! tray icon, left click to select Configuration Wizard. Select "I am using AOL" on the ISP and click on Next.

The AOL browser uses a type of image compression that can interfere with Java applets. This problem is sporadic and will sometimes show up even after the activities have been working fine for months. Symptoms of this problem include missing buttons, other missing graphics, or the whole activity appearing as a gray box. Follow these instructions to fix the problem: Go to the activity page. If there is no change, press the reload button (the clockwise-pointing arrow).
