What is the difference between DOHC and SOHC engines?

w w w . v a n c o u v e r c i v i c s . c o m
Generally speaking, DOHC engines have higher displacement and dual cams (one for exhaust timing and one for intake) which can be tuned independently for a higher range of performance. They are also usually more "stout" engines than single cam engines. It is however also possible to tune single cam engines as well. They have been around for some time and the same number of modifications exist for single and dual cam engines.

When did the 2.5L engine switch over from DOHC to SOHC?

FAQs
Previous to '99 all 2.5L were DOHC and the crankshaft thrust bearing was on the #3 main bearing. This caused a see-sawing at high rpm due to the 2.5's longer stroke (everything was seemingly fine on 2.0 and 2.2 motors using this design). In addition, the 97-98 DOHC 2.5L used a piston with no skirt, which looked a bit like a pancake.

a) What are the main differences/advantages in the DOHC head vs. SOHC head?

G64 FAQ
While the exhaust ports are the same size on all of the heads in question (1g and 2g DOHC and 4G64 SOHC), the intake ports vary wildly between them. The largest intake ports are found on the 1G DOHC head, followed by the 2G DOHC head, and finally our 4G64 SOHC head. For comparison, the 2G DOHC head intake port is 27mm x 55mm in size, while our 4G64 SOHC intake port is 27mm x 43.5mm in size. That's about a 20% reduction in size.

Will one of the dohc 750s motors fit in the 750 sohc frame?

faq
NO Same pattern... different spacing... A DOHC engine will not work in a stock SOHC frame... It will bolt up and different spacers made... but the front sprocket will be lined up with the left seat down-tube... may be OK in an aftermarket or custom frame with a single seat down-tube....

What is the difference between search engines and directories?

Resources :: Anduro Marketing
Search engines use software programs (algorithms) to index web pages, often called robots or spiders. They are programmed to constantly "crawl" the Web in search of new or updated pages. They will go from one to another until they have visited nearly every website on the Internet. Every search engine employs different criteria to determine if your website should be indexed and how well it should be ranked. The most popular search engines today are Google, Yahoo!, and MSN.

FAQ - EIU - Booth Library
The library subscribes to numerous online databases that allow you to search for information from established, reputable sources. By contrast, internet search engines (such as Google) will only find information that is available for free on the World Wide Web. It's important to remember that you generally get what you pay for. Be sure to evaluate carefully any information retrieved from an internet search engine.

Zenoah/CY engines? What's the difference?

Large scale FAQs. New to large scale!? Read this first!!
CY is a chinese company that produces good quality engines, similar in design to the popular and slightly more expensive Zenoah engines. The more expensive cars are often supplied with Zenoah engines, which run a bit smoother, develop a bit more power CC for CC. A Zen 26 should outperform (though not by much) a CY26. Once you start adding headkits though, it makes little difference which engine you originally started with.

How do I break in my engines?

Frequently Asked Questions
The way I have always done it is to actively adjust my engines during break-in. During this time the engine can change several times so as soon at it does I land and adjust it. To begin with, on the first tank I first get it so rich that it hovers a little above middle stick. Hover for a couple minutes then let it idle for a minute to cool down. Do this for a whole tank. Let the engine cool, then on the 2nd tank you can hover and move around (at a slow walking pace).

What does SOHC, SMPI, etc mean? What do I have?

Chrysler FAQ - WikiFAQ - Answers to Frequently Asked Questio...
DIS means distributorless ignition system. No rotor! - Chrysler is moving past DIS to a coil-on-plug system SOHC and DOHC refer to the number of camshafts; one or two. TBI - throttle body injection; one or two injectors spray fuel into the air as it heads to the cylinders. MPI uses one fuel injector for each cylinder. It sprays fuel in the intake manifold, firing at the intake valves. These are smoother than TBI systems, and have more power *and* better mileage.

Can you put the DOHC head from a turbo 4G63 onto the 4G64?

G64 FAQ
Yes, it can be done, and has been done. Mitsubishi made this entirely possible and easy when it released the 1994 Galant GS, which came stock with the 4G64 DOHC engine. You can use the stock bottom end, and bolt on a DOHC head, using some parts from the above mentioned 94 Galant, such as the timing belt and cam gears (or adjustable 4G63t cam gears). There is a website that deals with this... Raycer97's Web Site
