Get VLC player. For further codec support, get Combined Community Codec Pack or K-lite Mega Codec Pack. All of these are free. You can get them on google.

You should see a white icon in your system tray (right-bottom of your screen). That is Haali Media Splitter. Right-click on that icon to switch between the audio tracks that are in the file.

Videos belonging to games from Blizzard contain DivX video, but with a different FourCC, namely "BLZ0". To play such videos you need to use ffdshow for decoding DivX video. The regular DivX decoder won't work (unless you manually change the FourCC). If that doesn't solve the problem, then you should use Media Player Classic or VideoLAN to play the file.

Yes, ShowShifter can play any video format that Windows Media Player can play. By default ShowShifter looks in the 'Video' folder on each of your drives in order to list them. This location can be changed using the 'Read Video Files' page, details of which are in Readme.html which comes with ShowShifter. A link to 'Read me' is under the ShowShifter option on the Windows Start menu. If you are using the recompression feature there is a 4gigabyte restriction on the size of the .avi file.

No - you need third party software to play most video types. SmartMovie is one example for XviD AVI files and it offers full screen landscape viewing too. For MPG/WMV and many other video files, there's CorePlayer. The only ones that you can play without additional software are MP4, 3GP and RealMedia(RM) files, all of which separate encoders are required. Nokia Video Manager is able to convert to MP4 at no charge. You can also try MediaCoder, another free utility.

After the avi is encoded by DivX codec, The logo does not exist in the avi file. If play back the avi file with official DivX player or use FFDSHOW filter, the logo does not show. The program can support most encoding filters based on Microsoft DirectShow, such as XviD or WMV9 and more if you install appropriate video codecs.

The Xbox 360 supports files encoded using MPEG-4 Part 2, Simple and Advanced Simple Profile. These files are often referred to as Xvid or DivX? video files. Many common PC DVD authoring tools, cameras, and camcorders are capable of encoding files using MPEG-4. Note that some files authored for DivX devices may also contain additional functionality(menus, subtitles, multiple audio tracks, etc).

You can already provide the same AVI file over and over again. This allows you to provide AVI files built, "on the fly", from different pieces of video. For example, TV shows or movies with different commercials each time they are downloaded. Normally, customizing AVI files at download time is impractical due to the server resources required to index and create a new AVI file, or even possibly to re-encode the video if necessary.
