Should I set the thermostat fan to "ON" or "AUTO"?

Boucher Energy Systems Inc. - Radiant heat experts serving t...
When the thermostat is set to "auto," the fan operates only when the temperature requires it. This is the most used setting. When the thermostat is set to the "on" position, the fan runs constantly. There are advantages to using the "on" setting. First of all, the air in the house is constantly filtered through the unit's air filter. Secondly, the constantly circulating air may result in a more even temperature throughout the house.

Should a thermostat's fan setting/switch be set to "auto" or "on"?

Frequently Asked Questions
This depends ont he type of furnace you have. If you have a furnace equipped with D.C. (E.C.M) variable speed motor, then yes. This is one benefit of the variable speed motor: you can affordably operate your blower 24 hours a day because it circulates the air in between demand cycles at a lower rate, and uses a lot less energy than a conventional blower motor. If, however, you have a furnace equipped with a conventional motor, you should operate the fan in Auto mode. See similar questions...

Try both ways. Running the blower all the time will use a little extra electricity, however the home is usually more comfortable, the temperature is more even throughout the home, and the air is cleaner because it is filtered more. The motors generally last longer because they are not starting and stopping. Some of the new furnaces have the ability to use a slow blower speed for continuous operation, and a faster speed when the furnace or air conditioner are running. See similar questions...
