Yes. Each lesson begins with a Lesson Snapshot and an Instructional Framework which identify the WHAT, WHY, and HOW at the planning and instruction. The scripted lessons and embedded assessments make it easy for a new teacher and/or substitute to teach Expressions Music Curriculum?. The curriculum also contains Teacher Notes which contain strategies and suggestions to assist the teacher with the lesson to vary the lesson experience in a more efficient manner.

The School of Education does not impose any restrictions. You must contact the districts to find out what they require from you in order to be able to substitute there.

For the first and second days absences, the student is to call his/her "study buddy" in each class for assignments missed. On the third day, the student's parent may call the Attendance Office (685-5244) before 9:30 a.m., and homework sheets will be sent to academic classes. Homework may then be picked up as soon as school is out.

Keep in mind that consideration for absences is an accommodation that is provided for some students. Talk with the student and discuss your concerns that absences are affecting class performance. Remind him/her of your policy on class absences. Determine with the student whether the missed work can be made up and arrange with the student to do so. Refer the student to an ODS Adviser if too much class work has been missed.

Teachers may schedule make-ups for planned absences. For unplanned absences The Music Place usually offers qualified staff substitutes. When make-ups are not possible or desired, families may opt for a tuition credit toward the following month’s tuition. To become a substitute teacher, you must obtain a substitute permit. A substitute permit authorizes the holder to serve as a day-to-day substitute teacher in any classroom, from preschool to grade 12. The document is valid for one calendar year and may be renewed annually. The holder may not serve as a substitute for any one regular education teacher for more than 30 days during the school year or for any one special education teacher for more than 20 days during the school year.

First fill out a Substitute Application. Attach to the application proof of at least 60 hours of college credit (if credentials have already been furnished to the Professional Human Resources Department, you will not need to resend them). Please supply your highest education level! You will be notified to attend an orientation after your application has been processed.

You are eligible to substitute teach when you have acquired 62 credits, with at least 6 credits coming from the loosely defined area of "education." Courses in education-related areas such as psychology, sociology, and human development count toward the 6 credit requirement. YES! Please call the school office if your student is absent due to sickness. If you wish to schedule a Prearranged Absence, stop in the appropriate office for the necessary form. The completed form should be in the office one week prior to the date of the prearranged absence. A teacher should report an emergency credential or waiver only if it is used in his/her current assignment. In this case, the teacher should report only the full credential.
