How often do I have to groom?

Chicagoland Bearded Collie Club FAQ
Start early to introduce your Beardie to his life-time hair care. Baby Beardies can be groomed in one minute. The idea is to acclimate the pup to be still for longer periods of time until they can spend an hour quietly accepting brushing and combing. Most owners do a thorough grooming at least once a week. (During the puppy shed, it's wise to increase to two or three times a week.) Lay the Beardie on its side and mist with water or anti-tangle spray. See similar questions...

Q8: What are the differences between the smooth coat and the long coat Chihuahuas?

Chihuahua Fanatics :: Frequently Asked Questions
The issue of whether or not there is a difference in personality seems to be a topic of debate within the Chihuahua community. Some claim that there is no difference in personality; others claim that longcoats have a tendency to be "soft-tempered" while smoothcoats tend to be more aggressive. Smoothcoats tend to have coarser fur than longcoats -- almost like bristles in some cases. Smoothcoats shed more than longcoats. However, longcoats do shed as well. See similar questions...

How long does it take for the Maltese coat to reach the floor?

Maltese FAQ section ii - The Kellys Maltese
The Maltese coat takes about a year to grow to the floor, but then only with special care. You should use good shampoos and conditioners, bathing no less than once a week and as it gets longer maybe every 4 days. Some show breeders wrap the hair so it won't break, taking it out and rewrapping it every day or two. Some put the dog in oil or do both. FAQ Index See similar questions...

What is a Long Coat/Hair ?

GSDCA - FAQ's and Information
A "long coat" has a long, wavy, soft top coat (not lying closely) without undercoat, usually with a parting down the back, flags on ears and legs and tail. The "long coat" is a disqualifying fault within the Breed Standard, and as such is not suitable for Showing or Breeding. However this in no way detracts from its ability as a pet and companion, in fact many people have a preference for them. Long Coats will generally be sold on a "Limited Register" Pedigree (see below). See similar questions...

How long can I expect the harling coat to last?

Scottish Lime Centre | Traditional Building Consultancy
The function of lime harling dictates that it should be less durable than the host masonry, and can in fact lengthen the life span of a building if applied and properly maintained. However, we have seen examples of lime harling which remain after hundreds of years with little maintenance ? even on some ruinous buildings! The use of an appropriate specification, and a high standard of workmanship will enhance the lifespan of an external lime coating. See similar questions...

How often do you have to groom the dog?

Jasme Bichon Frise - FAQ
It is imperative that the Bichon undergo regular grooming otherwise the coat mats. Since the Bichon does not shed, mats are a serious concern, as they may result in skin sores, tearing and skin disease. Heavily matted animals must be shaved to solve the problem. Grooming means a thorough brushing at least once a week (and then you will find mats but they shouldn't be too bad). Daily brushing is much better. If done on a daily basis, it will take approximately 15 minutes. See similar questions...

I want to keep my dog's coat long, but he always ends up having to be shaved. Why?

A Pet's Best Friend Dog Grooming & Dog Wash FAQ's & ...
We love to keep your dogs looking their absolute best and prefer not to shave them if it can be avoided. Our #1 commitment is to the safety and comfort of the dog which means that it is often more humane to just shave the dog than it would be to de-mat him. There is a common misconception that if you have a "Non-Shedding" breed (such as a Poodle or Bichon Frise) that they don't need to be brushed and combed. See similar questions...

If I don't want my Maltese to have a long coat, what kind of haircut would you recommend?

Maltese FAQ section ii - The Kellys Maltese
Probably the most common way to cut a Maltese is the "puppy cut", which is cut fairly even all over with a little length left on the head, legs and tail. However, there are also other cuts used on Maltese. There is a Poodle imitation, a Schnauzer imitation or just about any cut you like. Personally, I like the "puppy cut". See similar questions...
