You do not require a serial number, nor an Activation key to run a demo compiler. After installing the compiler, your Windows START menu will contain a program called "Compiler Activation". Don't be misled! This is not the compiler, nor do you need to use this application in order to access the demo compiler. The compiler activation program is only useful once you have purchased and registered your compiler. Until then, you can disregard this program.

If this is your first time installing or activating your product, you can find your serial number with the shipping documentation on your Certificate of Ownership. In the middle of the Certificate, find "S/N:" followed by a bar code with a number under the bar code. The number under the bar code is your serial number. If you have already installed and activated your product, there are other ways you can find your serial number. Refer to the KnowledgeBase for more information.

Your serial number is required to complete the activation process. Please refer to the FAQ, "Where Do I Find My Serial Number for Activation?" If you still cannot find the serial number for the product you are activating, please contact National Instruments.

In version 1, your serial number is printed on a white label on the front of the sleeve of the CD-ROM. It may also be printed on a label on the outside of the white shipping box. The format of the serial number is XXXX-YYYY-YYY-YYY where XXXX are letters. In release 1.0.1, it does not matter whether you type a zero or the letter 'o' for '0' nor whether you type a one or the letter 'i' for "1". In release 1.0, be sure to type one, not 'i', and zero, not 'o'.

After you have purchased ToTheTrash, you will receive an email that contains your Registration Key/Serial Number. You will need a serial number and activation code in order to fully activate the Quickclose software. The serial number and activation codes are supplied when the software is purchased or upgraded. My compiler is running in demo mode. How do I activate it? A: To activate your compiler you must first register your details with HI-TECH Software. You can register o-line from the HI-TECH web site. Go to: http://www.htsoft.com/support/register.php After you have registered you will receive an activation key, and you will be directed to where you can download the full version of the compiler that can be activated. NOTE: The demo version of the compiler can no longer be acivated.

The star after the serial number is a replacement note that was issued to take the place of a defective note that was discovered. Using the * ('asterisk'=SHIFT-8) key will get it into the system. Since it's too cost-prohibitive to re-issue the same serial number, it's easier to print up a bunch of star notes and then use them to fill the stack once the defects are pulled out. Most star notes don't command a premium unless they are uncirculated, and/or have a real interesting serial number.

First, make sure that you are entering the serial number for the version of the software you are serializing. 99% of the problems users encounter is the result of trying to enter a serial number for an old version (for instance entering an ArtMatic 1.2 serial number into ArtMatic Pro). If you are entering the correct serial number, make sure that you have write permission for the folder in which the application resides.
