QUESTION: I don't want a dog in the house. Why can't Pugs stay out of doors?

The Pug FAQ
ANSWER: Pugs cannot tolerate high heat and humidity for very long. Dogs cool off by panting and their long tongues and noses give them more cooling area. Pugs have virtually no cooling area for their bodies, so they can (and will) literally over heat and die in less than 30 minutes outdoors in high heat and/or humidity.

I don't "believe" in vaccines. I want my pet to stay with you. Can't I get a titer for my pet?

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, however your vet MUST update a vaccine certificate, not just fax a titer (lab results). There is no standardized way of interpreting titers or measuring them. Your vet must verify an adequate vaccine response by updating a vaccine certificate. In general most vets in NY/NJ area are giving distemper combo vaccines (DA2PPV) every 3 years. I will not accept titers for bordetella (duration of immunity is only 6-12 months, never any longer).

Question: Do Pugs get along with other animals?

Kentuckiana Pug Rescue - Pug FAQ
Answer: Pugs are generally very friendly, and easy going. That is not to say that Pugs will always get along with other animals. A lot will depend on the personalities of both animals, also their age and size. It's important to be aware that cats can cause permanent damage to a Pug's eyes with their sharp claws - the same with birds and reptiles.

QUESTION: Pugs have short hair so they don't shed very much, do they?

The Pug FAQ
ANSWER: Pugs shed tons of hair! Pugs have both a top coat and an undercoat, with the top coat having long straight hairs and the undercoat having softer fluffy straight hairs. Normal hair length on a Pug is about 3/4 of an inch, although they can be longer. Don't let anyone tell you that Pugs do not shed - they are more interested in getting you to take one than telling you the truth.

Question: Are Pugs clingy dogs?

Kentuckiana Pug Rescue - Pug FAQ
Answer: Of course, there will be exceptions, but the answer to this question is almost always Yes. Pugs, by nature, love people. They love to be with their people and are therefore usually found at your feet, in your lap or by your side at all times. If you want an independent dog, a Pug is not for you.

b>Frequently Asked Behavior Questions
My 7 month old boxer has a thing for wood. She is outside with our other dog part of the day, but she also chews on things that are wood. She has torn off all the lattice work from the deck and has begun to chew on the deck. She has also torn the bark off the trees and pieces of the wood fence. Last night, she moved onto the wood siding of the house. She's also taken to digging small holes in random places in the yard.
