Outlook Web Access is the online email client that predoctoral students can use to access their email account. Check out the OWA Quick Reference.

Microsoft provides OWA as part of the Exchange Server, allowing users to connect remotely via a Web browser such as Internet Explorer. OWA offers most of the same functionality as Outlook 2003. It looks very similar, and, crucially, lets you see the same e-mail, calendaring, address books, etc. as you would see when using Outlook on your office PC.

OWA offers spell check functionality if you are running Internet Explorer on your Windows workstation. To enable spell check on all outbound messages, navigate to the Options screen and select Always check spelling before sending. Then click Save and Close to commit the new configuration.

Enter your full Account Name: (for example, Joseph_Smith@uml.edu). Enter your old and new password, then confirm your new password. Remember, the system remembers your last two passwords so your third password will have to be unique.

The from address in Outlook Web Access is automatically configured to be your proper legal name as provided by the Registrar/Human Resources and cannot be changed at this time. The "from" SMTP address is set to be your official UML email address, Firstname_Lastname@uml.edu.

Answer: The attachments you can view with Outlook Web Access are .txt (text), .jpg, .bmp, .gif, files. Attachments such as .exe cannot be opened in Outlook Web Access. Depending on how you have your browser configured, you may be able to view Word and Excel documents within your browser window. Otherwise you will have the option to download these attachments to your computer to view them.

You will no longer see messages with the ***spam*** tag in the subject. These originated from the old anti-spam system. The new system does not flag messages in this manner. Otherwise, you should see no difference, except for fewer unwanted messages.

Answer: If you are accustomed to using the full Outlook client to access your email, you might have entered your password incorrectly when attempting to log on to Outlook Web Access. The Outlook client is not case-sensitive for password resolution. If you have a capital letter in your password that you do not normally capitalize to access your mail, typing your password without the correct capitalization will cause Outlook Web Access to deny your login.

To access via web through the Exchange interface, enter the following url into a browser:http://owa.nomedominio.ext then enter your email and the password you chose when you activated your Exchange account in the form.

Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Opera and Firefox will work with Outlook Web Access. For the richest experience we recommend Internet Explorer.

Answer: The "native" Outlook client and Outlook Web Access (OWA) allow you to access your email account and other services on the Exchange server. Microsoft Outlook is the primary client for Microsoft Exchange Server. It is designed to operate as an independent personal information manager (PIM), an Internet mail client, or in conjunction with the Microsoft Exchange Server for group scheduling, email, and task management.
