The different terms used - meg, mb, kb, gb and Gig - can be confusing. The smallest unit is the kilobit, often written as kb. 512 kilobits, or 512 kb as it is usually written, is the minimum speed, or transfer rate, for broadband. it actually means 512kb per second. Dial-up speeds are around 57.6 kb. On this website you will see kb in the upload speeds and in the slower download broadband speeds. The next size up is the megabit, also referred to as Mb or Meg (particularly in speech).

Per-gig is the actual total SIZE of the combined files that are sent by the server. Throughput is sold in Gigabytes (GB) and is an aggregate monthly total. So, for example, lets say you have a web page called THISPAGE.HTML and the actual page is 25k and on this page you have 3 graphic images that are 25k each, then that is a total of 100k. If 100,000 people come to that page over the course of a month, then your PER-GIG amount would be calculated as 100kB X 100,000 = 10,000,000kB or 10GB.

The smallest granularity of disk storage addressing is called a disk block, or sometimes a disk sector. Groups of disk blocks are usually organized together into the smallest unit of storage that can be allocated, and this unit is called a disk cluster. The number of blocks in a cluster is the cluster factor, and is established when the disk volume is initialized. Each individual disk block is composed of five hundred twelve (512) bytes, or one-half kilobyte.

For pages with thumbnails this is an indication of the total download size for all the pages that can be called up. A GB is 1,000,000 KBytes. Although it can vary and does, a 30 minute show on my site is around 6 1/2 MB is size. If you you put that in bytes it would be 6500. If you divide 6500 into 1,000,000 you will get 153.8 30 minute shows. So for $7.00 you can expect to get somewhere around 100-120 1/2 hours shows. Now not all my 30 minute minute shows are that small, some are smaller, and some are larger, how many shows you get depends on how they were encoded.

This is the space allocated on a hard-drive on the server where you store your web or streaming video/audio. A normal website is quite small; a large archive of high resolution 10 minute video clips would require more space.

The file size times the number of viewings/downloads. Example: A short 30 second clip saved in low res. 56k format is small and can be viewed many times. An hour-long high definition video with audio could exceed 2 GB when played one time.

The name is used for tracing/messaging information; the condition specifies when WBI should route the transaction through this MEG; the priority value orders MEGs when several match a given transaction; and the enabled property turns the MEG on and off. These properties can be set individually using setName, setCondition, setPriority, and setEnabled, or they can all be set at once using setup.
