The Department of Correction realizes the importance of support from the families and friends of inmates. Visitation is allowed at every one of the IDOC's eight prisons and four community work centers. If you are interested in visiting an incarcerated offender, you must complete a visitation application. Visitation applications may be obtained by the inmate in his or her housing unit and mailed to potential visitors.

Inmates cannot receive phone calls while in jail. However, most inmates are allowed to purchase phone time that can be used to make outgoing phone calls.

Security is the top priority in everything the department does, and Idaho’s institutions are considered to be among the safest in the United States. When offenders enter the system they are classified at a reception and diagnostic unit. Those who are considered to pose a risk to other inmates are assigned living arrangements that provide higher security.

There are some basic rules to follow. First, send money orders. Personal checks will not be accepted and it is unwise to send cash in the mail. The money order should include the following information: the inmate’s first and last name, the inmate’s number, the institution and housing unit where the inmate is housed and the name of the remitter. Money sent to an inmate will be placed on the inmate’s account within 24 hours of our receipt of funds (during normal business hours).

Inmates may receive written letters and standard photographs. Polaroid photographs, stamps, envelopes, and other forwarded items are not allowed. Mail content must be thoroughly understandable by jail staff. Mail or publications containing images or depictions of sexual situations, frontal nudity, or sexual acts are prohibited.

Search by Name: You are required to enter a Last Name. You can also enter a First or Middle name to narrow down your search. If you are not sure about the spelling, check the "I'm not sure about the spelling" checkbox. This will return similar names to the names you entered. Search by X-Ref: If you know an inmate's X-Ref Number, you can search for their details by their X-Ref. To get the best results, try searching by either a last name.

Cash is not accepted! The only way to get money into a detainee's/inmate's account is with a money order made out to the inmate. In addition, there is a limit of $500 that may be in a detainee's/inmate's account. Money orders that exceed $500 or cause a detainee's/inmate's account balance to exceed $500 will not be accepted.

Incoming mail must list the full name and address of the sender and the intended receiver. Improperly addressed mail will be returned. The correct address is: The U.S. Post Office will not accept outgoing mail that contains any drawing on the front of the envelope or mail that contains colored drawings on the back of the envelope. Inmate mail is subject to scanning.

To add money to an inmate's account, you must submit it in a sealed envelope addressed to the inmate who is to receive the funds. The envelope must also include the name of the person funding the account, and must be placed in the jail lobby drop box or mailed. Please note: Cash will not be accepted. Only money orders or bank cashier's checks will be accepted. Receipts will not be given for the funds. The money order or cashier's check stub will serve as your receipt.

least eighteen (18) years of age; persons under the age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (proof required), or be able to produce proof of marriage to the inmate.

The Carroll County Jail provides a commissary for inmates. Commissary is a privilege for the inmates and can be stopped at any time with little or no notice. Commissary can be revoked as part of a disciplinary action. No inmate account will be extended a credit. If money is not available in the account, the order will not be processed. No inmate may transfer funds from one account to another. Inmates will not be allowed to transfer money from one inmate account to another.

We have the inmates do TWTH first. The reason for this is simple. The inmate at some point went off the rails for whatever reason and he/she turned criminal. What the first course does is help them regain their self worth. It does this by showing them the guidelines for happy living and gives them a moral code that they can apply to life.

The Departments of Criminal Justices set very strict guidelines regarding communications with inmates. It must be by US Postal Service mail (no, inmates do not have access to e-mail), and every piece of mail going in and out of a unit is inspected for content and contraband. You may write letters directly to an inmate if you know his/her inmate number and the unit address. Just remember... don't promise to write to an inmate and then fail to follow-through.

PHOTOGRAPHS: You may send photographs in the mail. However, if they do not meet the following standards, or if they exceed the amount allowed, they will be kept in the inmate's property in the Intake Section. Photographs may be kept in an inmate's cell provided they are not pornographic. No photograph may be larger than 4x6 inches. Photographs which contain nudity, which may be obscene or pornographic, will not be accepted and returned to sender. No frames or mattes will be permitted.

Visitation is Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each inmate is allowed two 1-hour visits per week. Trustees are allowed three visits per week. A new visiting list for every upcoming week is passed around to each cell block on Saturday morning. Inmates may sign up for visitation at that time. The public may also set up visitation by calling the Jail or Annex requesting a specific date and time. The public may call anytime Sunday-Friday, and after 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
