The ideal dog adopter is currently a responsible dog owner or has owned a dog before, and has a fenced yard or convenient area to provide the dog with adequate exercise. Beyond that, we look for the type of household where a specific dog would do best. Some thrive in an active household with children; others need a quiet home; some dogs are perfectly happy to be lap dogs and require walking but not extensive exercise, others need a lot of exercise and owners who are active hikers.

For some people an older dog that has had some training, is housebroken, and is through with chewing is just what they would like to have in starting out with an Anatolian. Whereas others just have to have that little bundle of fur to nurture and watch grow. Some people feel as though they do not truly bond with a dog, unless it starts out with them as a puppy. Others may like knowing from the start the personality and size of their new dog.

This depends entirely on the personality of your older dog. Really old dogs will not like a puppy jumping all over them, especially if they have anything wrong with them or they are in poor health. If your dog is not old or ill, it may take some time to get them used to a new puppy, but they will give in eventually. Puppies are lively and spunky and tend to not give up on making friends. Just be sure to feed them separately so there are no fights.

Prior to making an appointment to adopt a cat or kitten, there are screening and application processes that all potential adopters must go through. This will be done with an Placement Team member, and may be done over the phone or in person. The amount of time the application process takes varies with each individual. We work by appointment only and schedule appointments for weekday evenings and on Saturdays.

By all means, if you see more than one CPCRN dog that you might like to adopt or learn more about, please list that dog's name on your Adoption Application as well. Feel free to complete and submit an Adoption Application without listing a specific dog you're interested in adopting. If you have not selected a Cairn, once you are approved to adopt from CPCRN, a Placement Specialist will be assigned to assist you in finding the perfect Cairn for you.

Lots of people buy a puppy and find that they feel sorry for him or her while they are away during business hours. We end up selling a second puppy to about 50% of our customers within the first year. Dogs love company, and it is not too hard to train a second puppy or even get two at the same time and train them together. It is less stressful on them when they have another pet to keep them company.

The adoption fee is $225. The majority of the fee, $200, goes to the sponsoring rescue to help aid more homeless animals and the remaining $25 goes directly to the HOPE program to cover expenses associated with the program.

The process is generally quit simple. You need to visit the shelter and look for the pet that best suits your living situation. Once you find a pet you are interested in then you fill out a short application/questionnaire. This application reviews some of our policies, some things that you need to consider before owning a pet, and some basic background information on you. If the pet is available, then we ask you to call the next day to check to see if the application is approved.

We encourage people to bring their dogs to the shelter to meet other dogs. It may seem silly but dogs are social creatures and have their own rules about living in packs. It is better to know beforehand what all their reactions will be.

Every time you adopt and pay an adoption fee, the money works toward other needy dogs. Since most shelters and rescue groups are non-profit organization all the fees help maintain the facility and rescue more dogs. In a way when you adopt you’re saving more than one life.

You should continue to feed a puppy formula to large and giant breed dogs (dogs that will weight more than 50 pounds) up to two years and one full year for all other dogs before switching to an adult pet food.

Most owners have the highest expectations, with the least understanding, when it comes to teaching their dogs how to go to the bathroom outside, while on a walk or in a designated area. To really establish how you are going to accomplish this daunting task, you must determine these three things; Crate-training is the simplest and most effective way I know of to housebreak your puppy or older dog. However, not all puppies take to the crate.

Our puppies/dogs are registered by the Hungarian Kennel Club (MEOE). We can obtain the Export Pedigree ($75) allowing you to transfer the dog's registration to AKC with full breeding/showing rights. There are many different diets suitable for feeding puppies. The breeder of your puppy should provide you with a recommended feeding program (diet chart) at the time you buy the puppy. This is a requirement of all Breeders who sell through the GSDCA Affiliate Club Puppy Listings service. Access to clean, fresh water is essential at all times. A good diet is complimented by proper exercise according to the age of the dog.

This depends on many factors such as the sex of the dog, the age, the height, etc. As a guide an adult male should weigh between 30 and 40 Kg, whilst adult females should weigh between 22 and 32 Kg. Puppies/dogs that are overfed and become overweight can develop serious physical problems.

Your puppy will have been vaccinated at 6 weeks of age (if you buy through the Puppy Listings service), and you will receive advice from the Breeder on further vaccination. As a guide your puppy will require the next vaccination at 12 weeks, with a "booster" at 16 weeks. After this your dog must be vaccinated every 12 months. The GSDCA Affiliate Club Branches will need to sight your puppy/dog's up-to-date vaccination certificate if you are training at one of those Branches.
