Several of you have asked me to make nicely formatted newsletters, the kind that look like (and use the HTML coding of) a web page. In the past year or so, I've declined such requests, advising instead to seek out businesses and services that specialise in this technology. Early 2006 one of my newer clients twisted my arm to pursue this further for them, and now I can say that I have mastered the basic technology sufficient for most purposes.

To monitor Google and see if the update has happened, use http://google-dance.miniunternehmen.de/ There's a link that says "Quick Check: link:www.yahoo.com" - when Google updates, the number of links to Yahoo changes. Right now it's 661,000. When they begin their update, you will see different results from their 3 servers. Once the update is done (takes a couple days), all 3 will show the same number. Remember while employing these methods will help you, it does not guarantee you a #1 listing. Perseverence is the key! Before you begin pick 3-5 central keywords you want to rank for. Most search engines rank your site for popularity. Therefore, even though you may have a great service or product, and have fine-tuned your web pages for relevant keywords, it is unlikely you will achieve a good position unless you have other web sites linking to yours. Secondly, ensure that the phrases that people are most likely to search for appear on your site. You check look at the LVW site access logs to see what the most common searches are on the sites. If the most obvious search for you site is "Bristol vegan" then add that as part of your sites' introduction text. If that phrase would look unnatural in your text then you could always hide it by inclosing it in a HTML P tag and making its text colour the same as the background colour. See similar questions...
