Change your computer display's video settings to show High Color or True Color (more than 256 colors). If you have noticeable grain or speckles on your film-derived prints it’s very probable that your negatives are highly underexposed (ie: they were not exposed to sufficient light). When photo printing machines encounter underexposed negatives they tend to boost the brightness to compensate, which tends to reveal bad speckly grain. Take a look at your negatives by holding them up to the light. If they seem very transparent and light then they’re underexposed.

Is your monitor set to display more than 256 colors? Take a look at the two pictures above: if they look the same to you, there is a good chance that your monitor is not set up to display more than 256 colors. On the Macintosh, use the Monitors & Sounds control panel to configure for thousands or millions of colors. In Windows, right-click on the desktop, select Properties from the pop-up menu, and choose the Settings tab.

You've probably set your video display to use only 256 colors (8 bits per pixel). For the best appearance, set your video display to use thousands or millions of colors (16 or 24 bits per pixel).

You probably have the Digibox UHF output tuned on top of a Digital terrestrial channel. Try disconnecting the terrestrial aerial to see if this cures the fault. If it does, retune the UHF output channel (see previous question).

This website is optimized for computer monitors displaying at least 800 by 600 pixels at 24 bit color (16.7 million colors). On a Windows-based computer, you may change your display settings by going to the Start menu and choosing Control Panel --> Display --> Settings. The amount of detail that the camera can capture is called the resolution, and it is measured in pixels. The more pixels a camera has, the more detail it can capture and the larger pictures can be without becoming blurry or "grainy." x256 - Found on very cheap cameras, this resolution is so low that the picture quality is almost always unacceptable. This is 65,000 total pixels. x480 - This is the low end on most "real" cameras.

If one particular picture posted to this group looks faulty, but the rest of them look fine, then its most likely a problem with that particular picture, or with the poster's Usenet program. But if *all* the pictures look bad, then your Usenet reader may be set to display messages in a proportional font (see Question 5). If there are a lot of almost-blank lines in the picture, then the message is probably suffering from 'wrapping'.

This is a problem at low light levels, and may be also due to subtle bugs in the code. The cause is most likely the OV7610 settings we are currently using. I am looking into this problem. Some of this is caused by the older technologies and manufacturing processes used in the OV7610 and OV7620AE. The OV7620 is much better about this.

The ImmerVision PurePlayer viewer automatically downsizes the image if your computer has insufficient free memory to display the full size image. Check that you do not have multiple panoramas open at once, or other Java applets open on other websites. When you open the panorama in a window you get a lower resolution version of the panorama - you can click the button to view full-screen, but the image may look pixelated.

Saving your photo story using a profile with a higher resolution can help prevent the grainy effect. You can change the resolution by choosing Settings on the Save your story page. The higher profiles contain better resolution of the pictures. The higher the resolution, the more system resources required to playback the story. This can make the story appear jerky if the computer does not have enough system resources to handle high resolution video.

OK, so your pictures look ok on your computer - You upload them, stored as JPG-pictures, which goes fine. But when you view them though, they look all crippled; grayish and odd, not at all like on my computer screen... You have saved your JPG's in a color mode called "CMYK". This is a color mode that many programs use, like Adobe Photoshop. Also JPG's can be stored in this format, however, most net browsers and programs can't display them.

Garden Tracker was designed to use pictures that were taken in a horizontal (not vertical) orientation. The horizontal orientation has about a 3 X 2 proportion of width to height. If your pictures, clip art, or images follow these proportions, your pictures should look fine on screen and when printed from Garden Tracker.
