The answer is no. The circuit designed by me uses RGB signal wires on SCART connectors. TV can utilize those signals, but VCRs don't understand them. So if you try to connect this converter through your VCR you will not get any picture. If you build those more complicated circuits with composite video output then you can connect them to your VCR.

This is normal for the moment. Analogic outputs are disabled when numeric ones are enabled (and vice versa). So you have to switch your connexion mode if you want to hear sound on TV. In Setup, if you set "Audio Out" : "SPDIF/RAW" you won't have any sound on analogic outputs. You have to set "Audio Out" : "Analog" to hear sound on TV using SCART or Stereo/5.1 connexions.

No you can't. VCRs don't have RGB pin functions implemented in their SCART connector, so my circuit doesen't give any picture. If you have a PAL VCR you can try to build the Paulo Coelho's VGA to TV circuit which has PAL composite video output.

Long answer: The minimum requirement for reproducing audio and video on DVD is an MPEG video stream and a PCM audio track. (Other streams such as Dolby Digital audio, MPEG audio, and subpicture are not necessary for the simplest case.) Basic DVD control codes are also needed. At the moment it's difficult in real time to encode the video and audio, combine them with DVD-V info, and write the whole thing to DVD. Even if you could do all this in a home recorder, it would be extremely expensive.

Everyone wants these to be TV's, but in most instances they are actually more closely related to the VCR. In a lot of models the only remote control that will satisfactorily work combo sets is the manufacturers original. In many cases even manufacturers that build their own TV's, have some other manufacturer build their TV/VCR combo's.
