Don't let the ink dry up in the cartridge or print with an empty cartridge as this can damage the printhead. If there was a protecting clip or tape in the cartridge when you bought it, put it back. Don't use any other tapes. If you cannot bring the cartridge to be refilled right away, put it back in its case, wrap it in a plastic bag or cling film and store away from direct heat. Excessive heat can cause a leakage.

HP #40 and HP #45 cartridges use a green indicator on the side to indicate how much ink is left. This green indicator moves out of view when the cartridge is empty and may not reappear after refilling. This is due to the way that the indicator is made. However, you can tell that the cartridge is full by its weight. After refilling, the cartridge will be noticeably heavier than when it was empty.

Unfortunately, the answer is "it depends on what you want." If you want a print made on traditional RC photographic paper and developed in photographic chemicals, then a LightJet print is best. But for the best over all print, including the richest colors and the deepest blacks and for a print that will last longer than photographic prints, then a print made with Epson K3 inks is the ulimate in quality.

Using the syringe supplied in your refill kit, inject air into the top air vent to clean the nozzles. A small amount of ink should be emitted from the nozzle upon injection. If this procedure is ineffective, fill a small dish with warm water and soak the nozzles for approximately 1 hour. After soaking dry the nozzle using a soft tissue or cotton swab and inject air into the top vent. Reinstall the cartridge and attempt to print again.

Install a Cleaning Cartridge to remove the particles which cause blocking of the print head. Cleaning Cartridge may also be used before each installation of a new cartridge to maintain the print head in good condition. Experiments have been conducted to prove that the solvent is not corrosive to the print head and, therefore, no damage is experienced.

The Printing Mailbox must be plugged in before inserting a new or replacement print cartridge. Once the device is plugged in and the blue Ready light is on, please proceed as follows: Step 1—Open the top cover. Push the cover gently until it stays up. Wait for the printer carriage to move to the right side of the Printing Mailbox. Step 2—Lightly press down on the print cartridge to release it (a), then remove it from the cartridge slot (b) as indicated below.

The printer will not let you remove a cartridge unless the empty light is on. Here is what to do: Turn the printer on and when the cartridges are in a position so they can be removed, pull the power plug. They will stay in this position and can easily be removed. When the power is turned back on the cartridges will return to their proper position. Empty cartridges that are unwrapped and not installed in the printer will dry out and may become clogged.
