Our Student Records Department has PSAT, SAT and ACT test scores on the transcripts for some students, but only if the student provided us with his/her correct social security number and put the correct social security number on the test at the time the test was taken. The SAT or ACT is required for freshman applicants. You can take the tests as many times as you want because we will consider only your best scores. We recommend a 1000-plus combined score on the SAT (Critical Reading and Math sections only) or a 22-plus on the ACT. Our mean SAT score for incoming freshman is 1070. The mean ACT score is 22. Although the SATs and ACTs are important indicators of your academic ability they are not the only indicators.

Farmingdale State College is a selective school, and we are looking for students who are academically motivated, and have succeeded in high school. The minimum high school grade point average for incoming freshman is 80% and we require a combined Math/English SAT score of1000. The minimum ACT score is 21 for admission. The Admissions Counselors at Farmingdale also take into consideration extracurricular activities, awards, community service and recommendations.

You may have read that the average SAT is 1170 or 26 ACT. If you are above those averages and have strong grades, you are doing well. Students with scores below the average should remember that it’s an average and not a minimum. Remember, we take your test scores in context with your entire application. We accept either test. We recommend that you take two tests (two SATs, two ACTs, or one of each). We’ll take your top score. Whatever you do, try to relax while taking the test.

It is the student's responsibility to release test scores to colleges during the application process. To officially release SAT scores, you must call the College Board and request your scores to be sent to the colleges you indicate. You have the option of using an automated phone service (800-728-7267) or connecting with an operator (609-771-7600). You will need a credit card number and the college code numbers (which are found in the SAT I/II Registration Bulletin).

Without any additional preparation, PSAT scores are a good indication of how the student will perform on the SAT. Students normally take this in October of Grade 11.
