What is DHCP?

Environment settings set by a batch file are not working.
DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol and is used to automatically configure a host during boot up on a TCP/IP network and also to change settings while the host is attached. This means that you can store all the available IP addresses in a central database along with information such as the subnet mask, gateways, DNS servers etc. The basics behind DHCP is the clients are configured to use DHCP instead of being given a static IP address.

Why does my IP keep changing? What is DHCP?

etree.org | general faq
When your IP changes, it is said to be dynamic. Broadband internet access often uses dynamic addresses through DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). You can usually determine a pattern for your host. It is not uncommon for your IP to change once a day, or once every few days. For instance, today your IP address might be 24.32.2.62, tomorrow you may have the ip 24.32.2.19. If you are applying for FTP access where the siteop has requested that you include your IP, you would send 24.32.2. See similar questions...

What is DHCP and how does it vary to BootP?

Eurotherm Chessell - Paperless Graphic Recorders
BootP initialises and automatically assigns the IP address of the instrument on Power up. The BootP server must have knowledge of the MAC address of the instrument. Whereas DHCP can be set to reinitialise or lease the address, subnet mask, DNS name, and other parameters, dynamically or at certain periods (24Hrs for example). DHCP does not necessarily have to have prior knowledge of the instrument. Depending on the setup of DHCP the instrument may not be guaranteed the same IP address every time. See similar questions...

What is DHCP? Why does VBNet use it?

VBNet - We're Your Connection
DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. VBNet uses it to ease the distribution of IP addresses which are needed to connect to the Internet. This means that once a customer's ethernet jack is enabled for high-speed access, the customer just needs to plug in his computer and reboot and Windows and Macintosh computers, unless they are configured otherwise, will use DHCP to get an IP address. This allows the customer to get up and running as quickly as possible. See similar questions...

How does Maintain handle DHCP?

Maintain FAQ - Maintain - Confluence
Maintain can generate DHCP3 config files. It takes all the hosts you set up in the web frontend and generates the respective DHCP rules for you. Since build_dhcp is a regular backend build module, it is called, just like build_dns, from the backend build scripts. Site powered by a free Open Source Project / Non-profit License (more) of Confluence - the Enterprise wiki. See similar questions...

Why does more then one client get the same IP from DHCP server or DHCP Auth-Auth?

Wireless ISP Equipment Manufacture-Demarc Technology Groups
This could happen if the DHCP timer is set to high and a change or restart happens to the DHCP server. Basically the clients get out of sync with the server and it could take as long as the DHCP timer was set to get back in sync. In general there is no reason to change the DHCP timer from default settings. See similar questions...

Well apparently it has to do with something called gene expression, which refers to the pattern in which genes are switched on and off. How can I compress my DHCP database?

Environment settings set by a batch file are not working.
NT Server ships with a utility called JETPACK.EXE which can be used to compact DHCP and WINS databases. To compact your DHCP database perform the following: Note: While you stop the DHCP service, clients using DHCP to receive a TCP/IP address will not be able to start this protocol and may hang. Jetpack actually compacts DHCP.MDB into TMP.MDB, then deletes DHCP.MDB and copies TMP.MDB to DHCP.MDB! Simple :-) For more information, see Knowledge base article Q145881 at http://support.microsoft.
