From this extremely high vantage point, a spacecraft can see effectively about one third of the Earth's surface.

JWST is going to the second Lagrange (L2) point , which is 1 million miles (1.5 million km) away from Earth, and it just takes a while to travel such a distance. Although a faster transit to orbit could be accomplished, such a direct insertion orbit would cost a great deal in extra equipment, extra fuel and a larger rocket. The JWST will be able to start operating during its trip to L2, so the time won't be "wasted". JWST requires a distant orbit for several reasons.

The maps have a series of white lines with tick marks on them that show what time (using Coordinated Universal Time, or UTC) the satellite will be passing over a particular location on Earth on a given day. The ORBIT radio grid emulator support virtual mobility. Virtual mobiles are introduced for discretized grid mobility. Physically located off the radio grid, a virtual mobile has a network driver that delivers packets to a mobility controller. Via high speed wired Ethernet, the mobility controller encapsulates and forwards these packets to a radio grid node i, which simply decapsulates and transmits each packet.
