It is a joy to discover the often hidden gifts and talents these students possess. When a student enters Scenic Land, he or she is tested to determine present levels of performance (what she knows well, and what skills may be missing from past learning). We then slightly back up the curriculum to ensure success right away, and then move forward at a "just under frustration" pace.

Our student:teacher ratio is very low and we strive to to teach students at their own pace. Students are screened for possible giftedness upon entering the school system, as required by state law. Accelerated math is offered starting in fourth grade. Beginning in ninth grade, Yorktown High School offers honors courses in English, Math, and Science. Some eighth grade honors math students are offered the chance to take Regents Earth Science at the high school. The district offers 18 AP and 9 college level courses at the high school.
